All About Pocket Knives

Howdy Everyone....Came across this Pocket Knife stamped W.M. Buck & Sons...anyone have any info?
Handles appear to be Hard Molded Rubber.

Almost certainly German. After WWI, German manufacturers sought to override the negative aspects of their German sounding names by offering their products under Anglicized sounding names like "Wadsworth" among many others. The Kastor Brothers had dozens of different names that did not sound Germanic.

I suspect this is another of that ilk.

That makes a lot of sense Charlie....thank You....would date this to before ww 2 or after 1945?.

tjmurphy has a knife posted on page 33 of the Got Shields thread (in knife lore) with identical bolsters and a very similar shield. It is stamped Owl Cutlery, Sheffield.

If I remember correctly, there are a lot of Buck's listed in Tweedale's Sheffield Directory. I don't have it in front of my but will get back to you.

I misremembered, the Buck family is in the London Knife Book,which lists a number of Buck's, but no WM. In the photo, it looks like it says something below the "WM BUCK" stamp? It might well be as Charlie says,that it was a German contract knife. It does not have the finish of a London made Buck.

It is a cheaply made Knife for certain..very light in weight.
