Challenge Cutlery "US" stamp?

I picked up this perty Challenge cutlery knife recently. I found info on the company that started over in England in the late 1800's then came to Connecticut until around 1928 or so. The rear tangs are stamped just simply "US". The only other knives I have seen stamped similar to this are old military knives. Most knives I have seen have "U.S.A." or "Made in USA" or similar. Just wondering if anyone has any input? I would appreciate it.

Nice knife.
I have never seen that stamp on the relatively few Challenge knives I've seen. Also, I've never seen a Challenge that shiny.

Its obviously been cleaned and polished but otherwise as far as I know its all good but I am not an expert. Blades are nice and tight, no cracks or anything. Some of the reference books I have looked in show similar patterns and material on other Challenge knives but none of them show both sides of the blades or you can barely see the stampings in the black and white pics. Thanks, I appreciate it!

I don't own a Challenge with that stamping, however, I'm pretty sure I've seen it several times over the years.
