All About Pocket Knives

Picked up a Remington 2004 Old Reliable bone handled jack. Seems to be a pretty well made knife, marked made in USA. Any idea who was making them for Remington at this time, I've searched and have not found much on them.

Don't know who made it but that's a great looking knife.

2004?? Not necessarily. Around that time, Camillus was making some Remington's. Bear & Son did the Scout knives around 2010 but back in 2004, before Camillus closed their doors, I think Camillus was still making Remington's.

Here are some Remington R14s from that era that were made by Camillus.

As of this date I have uncovered several companies that produced,( under authorization from Remington) contracted knives for Remington from 1920's-1940's and also the modern age knives 1970's to today. They are as follows:

1.Scharade Cutlery USA made the pull ball quick release knives for several companies including Remington who authorized their tang stamp logo on each pull ball knife. These knives date back to the 1920's and 1930's.

2. Quick Point, St Louis USA made several authorized advertising knives for Remington such as the MKT railroad knife and the Ralston Purina knife in the 1930's.

3. Camillus of USA made the authorized reproduced Bullet knives and anniversary knives for Remington until 2005 or so until they closed their doors, going out of business in 2007.

4.Camillus of Ireland were authorized to make 20-30 sets of Bandit knives for Remington's executives in the 1980's.

5. Boker of Solingin Germany were authorized to produce the fist two Remington "Wildlife Series", ( Ram and Elk) knives in 1996 and 1997 and may have produced other speciality/anniversary knives as well.

6. Alcas Cutlery USA made an authorized prototype Remington R1123 in the mid 1970's. They were never produced.

7. Bear & Sons USA were authorized by Remington and made the reproduction Remington BSA knives and the Bullet knives as well as others.

8. Currently 2017 Remington announced that Buck knives USA will be authorized to begin production on Remington brand knives.

9. Kastor/Camillus made advertising knives for Remington 1933-1940 in USA and possible German factory for export.These knives had the "scripted" lined Remington tang stamp.

These are a few of the companies Remington authorized to make their knives as well as companies in China and in Italy. Still researching other possible companies involved this topic.
A close view of your knife's tang stamp front and back may offer some answers.

JohnR, my best educated guess is it was made by Camillus in 2004. I believe they produced the Ranch Hand R103 and R103-B. The R103 in imitation jigged Delrin handles and the second R103-B is the Remington Bullet Knife 2004. The spear and pen blades are made of stainless steel, tempered to a Rockwell hardness of 56-59. The liners are made of non-rusting brass. The handles are made of genuine jig bone pictured below. Just my humble 2 cents worth. and...I could be proven wrong!
