All About Pocket Knives

I'm looking at buying a Winchester Whittler for $15, which the seller says is Chinese made, and he may be right but the tang stamp says "Winchester Trademark USA", which makes me question that. Is it US or imported? And if American made, is it worth that money?

Maybe or even PROBABLY worth it. I'd think most of us would give that much to watch a monkey hump a football.

Like Ray said the knife is probably worth $15. Where is was made depends on who owned the trade mark during that period. Blue Grass Cutlery used to have the rights and I think some of their Winchester knives were actually made by Queen. Camillus may have made some before closing?
Then SMKW got the rights and had some made in China and likely other places as well. I have one that says Winchester / Trade Mark / Made in USA that I would guess was made in Japan or the parts came from Japan. Has that distinctive 1980's Japan stag on it. Hard to tell but many times you can spot a China knife in a crowd. According to my book the last original Winchester brand knife was made in 1942.

For $15 it doesn't matter where it was made. What matters is: does it speak to you ? i.e. if you just really like it and blades open and close smoothly are are not loose when open, then buy it, and use it. There are many good knives from China that cost in the $15 range. Likely the guy in the store is right "made in China".

Well if that comes with a hotdog and a drink included in the price, sure why not.
