All About Pocket Knives

I got this knife in a few weeks ago and just had to share it with you guys. The blade is a Schrade "PRESTO" from an early switchblade knife. The blade now resides in an incorrect frame (I did know the maker of the H granddaddy barlow frame, but it slips my memory at present). Complete with cracked handle. Someone obviously really needed a knife and must have just thrown together what they had on hand!

Any other "Frankenstein-knife" creations?

That is a pretty awesome old creation. I believe your frame might be from a Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. (HSB) large Barlow of indeterminate age. There is a regular HSB Barlow with the "H" bolster stamp for sale right now by one of AAPK's most noted Barlow collectors.

Best I've got is this Buck "mutie" I often carry in place of a more modern/tacti-cool folder. It's a newer Buck 112 frame with a fairly recent 450 drop-point blade (in 420HC) that, to the best of my knowledge and inspection, appears to be a factory replacement/cobble/repair. I can see no evidence that the knife has been apart by inexpert hands, F&F between blade and frame is absolutely dead-on perfect, and mechanically the knife is exactly what I've come to expect from a factory Ranger. You wouldn't know it was a Franken-knife if you didn't recognize the frame.
These pictures are from January. Since then, I have bolted on a Kwik thumb stud to make it OHO and it is a regular EDC for me. Carried it today, in fact...

AH!!!! Just what we needed;an ugly knife thread! I have a few of them.
First one is a very old large single blade that someone has replaced the blade with a hand made item.Scary sharp and a very crude nail mark but it works.Someone really liked this knife to go to all that trouble.
The next two are hand made knives that I picked up over the years. They are kind of crude but they still function well.

Thanks for sharing your "uglies" guys! I agree, sometimes they aren't the prettiest, but the do the job! At the very least, they are a good conversation piece! I think this could be a fun and interesting thread. Any other "Franken-knives" out there?

You guys have ugly ones that work. This one.... the springs and blades don't come close to matching, and the pins look like they were peened with a rock.
