Ode To The 07

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

This one just arrived. Always enjoy adding another 07W to the pile...especially when it's one I don't already have.

Two final drops of sweetness and my 'honey hole' is all played out; no more fish in the Bay.

Never thought I'd say this, but I think I've finally reached peak mini trapper: Mini T Critical Mass. ::tired::

Was avoiding these "themed" 07s because I thought they were kind of cheesy; but, when I saw this one it reminded me of my dog, Lehua, who passed away in 2017, and I just couldn't resist. Turns out, it looks better in person than in photos...much nicer than I was expecting.

Box label shows the date of manufacture as 10/26/07, although the two "X" tang stamp indicates 2008. (OCD Monkey hates it when that happens :? )

Oh my! The Brick Red Case Select is a real beaut. I must not be keeping a very close eye on The Bay 'cause I didn't see that one.

Yeah, except for the Army edition I bought for my Grandson and the USMC edition I bought for myself (slap the Eagle, Globe & Anchor on it and an old Marine will buy a dog t**d) I too stay away from the "themed" editions.

I did however see this Wharnie in Antique Sawcut Bone and it's on it's way.

Glad you got that one, jerryd. I was watching it and almost put in a bid, but despite my proclivity for "hoarding" 07Ws, I decided that one of this style was enough (for now). But, if it had been a few $$ less at the end of the auction, I don't think I could have resisted (at least it's good that you kept it in the "family"). Super deal on a great 07W--Congrats. ::tu::

OCD Monkey is going nuts trying to figure out what "TBT" stands for. ::cb:: ::shrug::

I’m not positive QT, but i think that “TBT RED” is actually supposed to be “TST RED”, which is the abbrev. for “Tested Red”! Like I said, not 100%, but I have had Tested Red handled knives in the past and that’s how they were marked on the box!

Thank you, Whittler 21, for sharing your knowledge. I never would have thought that "TBT" was actually "TST", but when I compare the middle letter to the "SS" printed on the label in the pattern number above, it looks the same.

So, mystery solved, OCD Monkey mollified, sanity saved; a good day in 07 world.

And, just in case you missed it the first time around, and because it's truly a beautiful color which is worth another dekko (and also because I'm an incorrigible show-off), here it is again...2007 Case 6207W TeSTed Red Wharncliffe Mini Trapper.

Been looking at that one since before they were available at Shepherd Hill. Still not sure how I feel about it. Wharncliffe is an automatic winner but the handles are............????????????? ::shrug:: And the price is about $20 north of what I think it should be but of course they didn't consult me when pricing it.

jerryd: I agree with everything you said 100%.

When I first saw this knife at Shepherd Hills, I was hooked by the wharnie and didn't pay much attention to any other details. Thought about waiting for it to show up on the secondary market, but, alas, I am not a patient man and I've been '"jonesing" for a new Mini T hit for awhile now. So, the die was cast and the plastic deployed (by OCD Mini Trapper Monkey) before my better judgement had a chance to talk me out of it. SOSAD! (Same Old Song And Dance)

So far, I've been able to stand strong. Right now it's a stand-off between the Wharncliffe and those handles (not that they're really super unappitizing). No way of knowing how long that will last.

My friend came by today looking to do some knife trading. These aren't necessarily ones I would have bought for myself, but this is what I ended up with. The Giraffe and the Shamrock covers look a bit cartoonish to me, but I do like the clover leaf bolster stamp. I already have a Mediterranean Blue Damascus 107W, so now it looks like I have two. At least they're not identical twins.

I guess when it comes to knife trading, sometimes it's more about the fun of swapping than about the knives themselves. :|

Thanks, John. I gotta admit, I do like the Devin Thomas "Ladder Damascus" much more than the "Forged Wrought Iron" Damascus Case used on some of their other Damascus knives. Since I now have two Mediterranean Blue 107Ws, if you're interested in getting one for yourself this could be the time to do it. Just let me know; I'm sure we could work something out.

I think it will be much happier living with you, jerryd...I'm glad it found a home where it will receive the appreciation it so rightly deserves. Now if you could just find the Bengal Tiger and the Zebra patters you could start your own private safari zoo! (Maybe even throw in a Rattlesnake, Lizard Skin and a Buffalo Horn for good measure.)

Found a Tiger but it's too expensive for this month. I'll just have to wait and see if it lasts into July.

It seems the OCD Mini Trapper Monkey that usually rides on my back was instead on the Mini T sobriety wagon during the month of July...I actually sold more 07s than I bought...can't remember the last time that happened (or if it ever did).

But, the 07 OCD Monkey is like a bad rash...just when you think you've got it under control, it comes roaring back with a vengeance.

It really didn't take all that much for Mini T Monkey to fall off the wagon. In fact, he actually leaped off the wagon with shockingly little hesitation or restraint, shrieking impatiently, after spotting a 207W that I didn't yet have in my collection (Periwinkle Bone). Just one small sip to "wet the whistle" and, like so many times before, he ended up taking me on another out-of-control, no-holds-barred, full-throttle, white-knuckle, crash-and-burn Mini T bender.

The smoke has yet to completely clear so I'm not entirely sure what the full extent of the damage will amount to. But, here's some of the debris I managed to salvage from the smoldering ruins (of my pocketbook) OCD Monkey left in his wake of wanton destruction.

I fear this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg; there may very well be more as yet unaccounted for and/or still on the way. I'm no longer surprised at what the Monkey drags in...it's the sheer volume that astounds me. Apparently, 07 OCD Monkey lacks all semblance of discipline or self-control. Tragic.
