All About Pocket Knives

To me this is something of a 'whatchamacallit'. Not really sure why I bought it at the last show but here we are.
The youngster I bought it from was pushing it as a skinning knife. I accused him of making that up but went ahead a bought it anyway.
I looked on the bay and I looked on the Gerber site but found nothing.
Do we have any Gerber addicts here?
If any of you has a clue, pass the info along, please.

I don't know, Ray, but that circle/huzy looks like something that came out of ear of a boy who works at our grocery store.

Hi Ray,
Gerber calls those knives "Chameleon." I don't know a lot about them but I do know they were made in at least two sizes. I have one of each somewhere that I bought years ago. They were not expensive at that time and looking at the sold listings on ebay today's price range varies. Hope this helps.

Thanks much for checking in on this. Now that I know what to call it I can find it on the bay and like you said, prices are all over the place. I can't imagine why anyone would be attracted to this other than it is a Gerber, USA. I am going to put it on eBay and hope for the best.

I carried one for awhile and they are actually pretty comfortable to use. They are also light but very sturdy.

I believe it's made for rock climbers. I've seen caribeaners run through the hole and fastened to harnesses.
I had an instructor that wore it like that. Also I've been in climbing stores that had them with the climbing hardware.

There are knives made in China with the same large finger hole. Are the Gerber examples made in U.S.A. ?

I have two older ones that were made in Portland, OR. I picked up another newer one recently that was probably made in China. I've never used any of them, they were just included in other bunches of knives I bought. I don't think any of them were ever used.

Did Buck make one similar in design to this knife ?
