Picked up a nice little folder today from an antique shop I haven't visited in quite awhile.Blade is etched,"Frank Carlisle" on one side and,"Detroit" on the other. Handles are dark gray faux pearl(aka mother of toilet seat)and turquoise;brass liners with nickel silver bolsters(front only)with profuse file work all over.Knife was on a board with a bunch of shell handled folders and one Case mini stockman. Paid $27 for it which IO thought was a decent deal.
Tried to find some info on him but the only thing I found was in the Knives 2002 book he is listed as being in the 2000 edition on page 72. Anyone have that issue that they could see what info is on him? It would be greatly appreciated.
Also picked a great mother of pearl HSB carving set in it's original box for $37. Will post that in the Kitchen forum.

Thanks for posting that Bob! I checked with a good friend of mine who is a member of the Wolverine Knife Collectors Club and he remembers Frank vaguely and thinks he may have passed away. He is checking with someone who would know.

The book page you posted refers to the Bowie as the Iron Mistress and that makes me wonder if he might have made the knife for the Alan Ladd movie 'The Iron Mistress'. I believe that movie was from the mid-1950s.
Ray
EDIT: I checked and the movie was released in Nov, 1952.

I remember reading a story somewhere in one of the early knife magazines about the Iron Mistress bowie. There were actually several knives made for the movie including one made from aluminum sheet for a special effects scene. The knives as I recall were made by a studio prop maker whose name escapes me at the moment but I don't believe he was a full time knife maker.
