I see a lot of tested and XX hatchet sets but not many USA erra. Hoping someone could give me some information on when Case stopped production on them. Thanks Keith

If you are talking about the Knife-Ax combo with interchangeable blade/hatchet, the last production year was 1970. That year it was only offered in stag - #561 retail price $40.00 per set. A lot of $$ at that time, when you consider that the 5265 SAB stag folding hunter retailed for $12.00.
261 in wood handles discontinued as of early 1968.

Thanks Steve. That's the answer I was looking for. One other question, what kind of volume did they produce in the USA era of them?

Do not know how many were produced but at the Nov. 27, 1982 Case (factory) Knife Auction held in Knoxville TN, they listed 159 sets for sale. They were listed as 561 Deluxe Knife/Ax Combination (genuine stag handles) "XX" and "TESTED" Stamps. These all were in the "pumpkin" boxes". The first one sold bought $325.00 via a mail order bid, next two bought $300.00 each. They stopped the auction after someone opened one and discovered they had the USA stamp and offered the buyers their money back, as no one objected they continued. Somewhat foggy in my mind now but the way I recall the next few sold for about $235.00, I got one for a little less, then John Parker got the next bid for $230.00 and he took all that remained. USA sets were hard to find before the auction and never very plentiful due to the short run

Steve is the 1970 hatchet set marked with 10 dots? Just wondering as you mentioned that
the last year made in stag was 1970.
Thanks
