All About Pocket Knives

Hi we picked this up at an estate sale and are wondering if someone can help with addional information

Looks like a Sheffield England horticulture knife. Late 1800s to early 1900s? A bit worn but still nice. Someone who knows will be along soon to tell you exactly what you have there.

I would say heavily worn.It is old.

As everyone else has said, it is a horticultural knife made probably in the late 1800's and made in Sheffield England. Looks like either stag or some type of antler handle. Lots of character. Terry

nice! use the point of a #2 lead pencil to clean up the blade.

The blade tip being above the handle in the closed position indicates significant blade loss. The curved "hawkbill" blade is difficult to sharpen. Doing it improperly causes blade loss so it is commonly seen with this knife pattern. Your knife shows greater than average blade loss.
Condition is 'everything' when it comes to monetary value of a vintage knife. Condition of blade here decreases value but people still buy these knives because they like the vintage stag handles.

The company that made it is Wade,Wingfield,and Rowbotham and according to Goins was in business from 1825 to 1858. That may have been an estimate because I have a 7 day set of straight razors by them and there is a presentation badge on the front of 1899.
