2 Lots Enter, One Knife Leaves

After $30, 2 Lots, 20 Knifes, 3 Lighters, and whatever this is...
I've decided to sell everything and keep...
Love this knife, and after cleaning it with a Brilo Pad (Bad?) it's smooth and great to handle. Love the weight. It's Pre- 1940, but very solid. Nothing loose. It reminds me of my scouting days at Ten Mile River. I'm going to take my time and restore it fully.

That first picture looks like a knife(or letter opener)made from a piece of shrapnel.I have a similar piece that is stamped,"from the London Blitz 1940-41" If you look closely you can still see remains of the machining marks that were on the outside of the shells.

Interesting info about the possible piece of shrapnel. Tell me more about these machine marks I'm not seeing anything

I thought I had some pics of the one I have but can't find them. I will dig it out and take some good closeups.The machining marks I'm referring to are when you turn a piece of metal on a lathe that are created by the cutting tool advancing along the piece.They look like very fine and closely spaced threads.
EDIT: Here are some pictures of the letter opener.Sorry for the darkness of them but the batteries in my camera need replacing so the flash doesn't work properly.The last picture shows the lines I was referring to.

Were these shrapnel openers a "thing to do" after the blitz? Are there more out there?
I've been collecting WWII items for a while now and have never saw one.

I'm really not sure;I picked this one up at a flea market many years ago.The tang stamp appears to be the letter B under a pair of crossed swords which to me means it was made by a company rather than an individual. To be honest I've never tried tracing the mark.
