All About Pocket Knives

Hello everyone I am searching for any information on a Brantford Cutlery Co 2 blade Jack knife. I don't believe it has ever had a number on it but I will try to post pictures. Thank you all!

Goins stated that Brantford was in business from 1910 until 1930.

They used a blade etch at times stating, "Warranted Never Dull", which was also used by Butler Brothers (1888 - 1940) of Chicago and New York City.

I don't know if that means "Brantford" knives were made by Butler Brothers.

Levine's Guide states 1877 - 1940 for Butler Brothers and suggested they may have used the name "Brantford".

Goins gives dates of 1910 to 1930 for that stamp. Also says "Warranted Never Dull" was etched on the blade. Adds that the "Warranted Never Dull" mark was used by Butler Brothers. Goins gives dates for Butler Bros., Chicago as 1888 to 1940. Goins also states that Butler Bros. was incorporated in Chicago, but were also in New York. Also states they dealt in all types of cutlery.
Levine gives dates for Butler Bros. as 1877 to 1940. Says they were a wholesaler based in Chicago, but also states they had branches nationwide and may have used the stamp Brantford Cutlery Co.

I've got one similar in a dogleg jack. I like this knife. It is very solid and well built.

Nice looking knives guys! I have a Brantford Barlow. Wished there was more information on these knives. Thanks for posting. Those two jacks are the only other knives from Brantford that I have ever seen!

Thanks very much to each one of you that responded to my query. I purchased my Brantford this summer and it's my favorite carry knife. I'll post some more pics of other knives soon. Oh by the way I paid $100.00 for this particular knife and I believe it to be a very fair pricejust based on the quality of workmanship, fit and finish and just the beauty of it. Yes Sir I too wish that there was more information on Brantford knives. Quality stuff from another time.

I just picked this little easy open up in a small collection a few days ago.It is etched too.

Good evening Sir, you have a beautiful example of a Brantford there. I can't help but notice how much they look alike except for the scales. Have you tried to establish a value for your knife? Just curious you understand I hope. I'm a very beginning collector.

I haven't tried to determine a value on my knife. I don't think I paid very much for it in a famous auction.
Although Goins' encyclopedia says Brantford was manufactured for 20 years, I don't think it is a well known brand.
I could easily be wrong on that. I don't see Brantford mentioned here a lot.
Like most brands in those days they were very well built. Maybe we can get more of them for cheap before the word gets out.

My one and only Brantford, a stockman. I too think they are a very well built knife. At a gunshow, I asked the seller if I could look at it and did he know the manufacturer. He said it was a company he had never heard of and he would take $5.00 for it.

Well, that's a great knife and a great price. Way to go OLDE CUTLER.

BTW here's my only Brantford. A MOP whittler, built like a tank! No etch though.
