All About Pocket Knives

Hope somebody has seen this trademark, seller tells me it was made in '90s. It has staglon handles and measures 5" closed. Dating on the emblem says 1938 - 1985 which must be company history. Thanks for any information.

There is a good chance that this was a sfo for Mac Tools.

It's a Schrade 280 altered for a Mac Tools anniversary edition. The same knife Schrade used for their 80th anniversary edition. I have the Mac without the box and the Schrade 80th anniversary, but I don't have the standard 280.....yet.

Thanks for your response. I looked for the trademark but had not found MAC tools, it is certainlly a match. Mine looks as if it has been under glass as a collector, so now I'll admire it for a while.

I'm not sure Schrade ever put the 280 out as anything other than an SFO

I agree. The picture of the plain one is an anomaly and the only one I've seen. I would really like to stumble across one some day. I haven't seen a plain one with that shield and Schrade stamped on the bolsters. Seems to be lots of unfinished Mac knives out there though. Good base knives for a project.
Nice knife, btw. Is it in original condition or customized?

I've never seen or heard of a 280, very cool knife.

It's an original, and the only one I've ever seen although there must be others...Schrade also made one in smooth white bone with a scrim of Peter Stuyvesant, the same peg leg guy you see on the SC506 Barlow. I have an unfinished one with no scrim that came in a wooden display box. I believe Cal has a scrimed one. I only recently found out that the first 200 80th Anniversary 280's had jig bone handles. When I mentioned this to Herman it was no surprise to him as he had done the file work on them and happened to have a set of the original bone handles...no shield.

Great! Thanks for posting those knives. I didn't know about the first 200 bone handled 80th Anniversary knives. Or the RMEF knife for that matter. That's beautiful bone! I had forgotten about that Peter Stuyvesant knife. I have a picture of it in my files but I believe it's Cal's scan so lets see if he shows up. I believe it's Eric that has a beautiful one of a kind custom 280, made to commemorate a knife show or something? I've seen some beauties. I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes by posting this picture of one of Herman's creations. I don't remember if I got it off of ebay or not, but it looks like one of his auction pictures with the green background.

Actually, Herman had 2 sets of those bone handles and I had a pair of them made, one for myself and one as a gift for my buddy to commemorate the Oregon Knife Show that he took me to this year. They each carry a special serial # and have a special C.O.A.
