All About Pocket Knives

Hi everyone, I'm new too this forum, as well as knives in general but I'm learning... Can anyone possibly help me to determine a selling price for my knife? I can hardly find any information on it online, any help would be much appreciated... Jerry

The knife looks to be indecent shape from the pics. How is the bone on the other side ? It also depends on where you plan on selling it. eBay, flea market, Craig’s list etc.. its a desirable knife imo

It is a beautiful example of a period knife. Condition is what people look at first, and that knife looks like it was left alone (not polished or modified).

The more you read here the better off you are. I'm gabbing a lot but I read much more.

Agree with what all have said - desirable knife

put it on eBay with a low opening bid. Buyers will bid it up to fair market value. It is a desirable knife but perhaps in less than really desirable condition.

Ummm I'll say no.I am the self proclaimed master of "les tbat desireable" (that's French).
I actually have no idea so I am bumping your knife to see what it is. To ME if it were a FleaBay knife, I would look it up just because it is a very pretty example of cutlery (think that word is French too).

Just that worm bone handle is extraordinary, whatever the knife may be.

The price guides to collectible pocketknives that were published by Parker and Voyles had a Ka-Bar Dog Head section in them. We might start there.

It's not mint, but it's a big five inch Lockback Folding Hunter made by a collected company and has what appear to be Cattaraugus Indian Trail style bone handles.

The knife will be desirable to somebody, because every collector cannot afford to buy mint knives.

Do you have family history with this knife?

What gunsil said.Desirable pattern, but does have some issues. The bolster pin is overly proud for one thing.

The only sure fire way to determine market value is to sell it. The second best is to look at an average of sold knives like it over a recent timeline. Book values are generally inflated and only the opinion of the book writer.

I don't have a value in mind, but like was said before, start low on ebay and i'm sure it will generate a lot of interest (bids). It is a collectable tang stamp and condition looks to be pretty good. You can always put a reserve price on it to protect your knife. I for one like it, nice ole knife. Terry

CANTHOK, you've raised an interesting point. Just a quick look and all the Kabar/Union knives on Google, the dog is looking towards the butt end of the knife not across it.

There was some discussion on another thread about some Kabars having the dog head facing the closed blade .

I wish I could recall the thread but I remember the discussion.
In other words it is not common but it has precedent.

You see them both ways.This is the less common.
