Stan Shaw at Kelham Island Sheffield

Recently my son and I went to the Kelham Island Museum at Sheffield ( England). It was my intention to talk to Stan Shaw who has a workshop in “Little Mesters Street” at the museum. One of the guides said that she wasn’t sure he would talk to me but wished me good luck?
We found his little work shop and he was busy making some liners and bolsters. I did manage to attract his attention simple buy saying his name. After a short conversation at his stable door he invited us in and after about an hour or so we left.
What gentleman aged 91 soon to be 92 and he works almost every day making such superb knives. I wouldn’t get excited about buying one they are all made to order and there is a 4 year back log in his book!!!! He made the anvil and all the hammers himself he buys his files now but he had made some in the past.
You can see in the photos there is 10 knives on his bench plus two that I had stopped his from assembling before he finishes them before heat treatment. I make them by the dozen now. I like his bench a man after my own heart everything to hand but nothing where it should be. I’ll stop now but what day, made my year.
