All About Pocket Knives

I have had this knife for a while but have never inquired about it. I picked up this knife without knowing anything about it, and for that matter, I still do not. I believe that it is a German made knife. It is 3 9/16" long closed. It is a split back whittler. I am unfamiliar with the maker, but I thought it was a cool old knife. Any information on the maker and the age of this knife would be appreciated.
The pictures are not that great but the tang stamp is HENRY over WILTON in all block lettering caps.

Goins has this maker but offers no information other than "g 1900". I don't know what the "g" stands for.

That is a very nice pocket knife with its sunken joints and classic bar shield, beautiful covers and being the always desirable whittler.
You thought it was a cool old knife. What better reason to own it. Congratulations.

Very nice old whittler! Goins lists the stamp, however, does not give much information. He says g1900. The g means he has no actual evidence to date it. He is going on his experience and the materials, construction, quality etc., of the knives he has seen with that stamp, to estimate a date.
Levine says Henry Wilton was based in New York and his knives were imported from Germany. Levine gives a circa 1900 date.

I have one Henry Wilton knife;a dogleg jack that has the almost identical bone handles. It is of German manufacture as on the pile side of the tang there is a bulls-eye shaped mark with the letters "Germany" in a circle.

That is a cool old knife too. Thanks for sharing. I have not seen many of these knives.
