Any tips on how to clean it up?

I have not set one up yet but many of the fellas here are using UltraSonic cleaners for this.
I've also seen pipe cleaners suggested with common cleaners like WD 40 or Simple Green.

A small air compressor is also a blessing (unless you're in an apartment)

Ed depending on whats gunking up your knife you could use a toothpick dig out the easy stuff. Spray it real good with WD40. Wipe out the excess WD and then oil her up! If its real bad I can clean it for you. No charge. Just PM me if your interested! I can give it a dip in the Ultrasonic cleaner for you and give a lube.

Too wide opened ended question.....my first thought was soap and water.
Paint? Rust? Broken handles?

If it's dirty, wash it. Then hit it with some WD-40 so the water is removed.

Gun cleaning brush. It looks like a toothbrush, only with stiffer bristles.

Use WaterPik that is used in dentisry. Use warm water.

Which handle materials would those be? Is that from personal experience or is it something you heard somewhere? Inquiring minds want to know.

For really dirty and rusted wells, a strip of crocus cloth wrapped around the end of a thin strip of wood works wonders.

Crocus cloth is a very fine grit sandpaper type material that is coated with iron oxide. It is extremely fine. The stuff that
I bought years ago doesn't even have a grit number on it.
