Hey all, and Happy Thanksgiving. I'm sure that most of us are sharpening our carving knives in preparation of tomorrow feast festival! Lol! Hope everyone has a blessed day, and pauses to give thanks to all of the freedoms that our Great country blesses us with.

Im hoping that with your expertise, that I can make a good choice when I purchase my next switchblade. Here is what I'm looking for. A knife that can be used as everyday knife, with a non serrated blade, out of the side blade, leverlock style release, stag or wood handles, 4" blade and reliable like camillus TL-29 is. My budget is around $150. Hope I gave enough information. Thanks! Rich

Hi LesPaulG,
Does new or used matter? American or foreign?
There are too many options out there.
I'd say that 150.00 is a fair price for a nice used (if you are lucky) Hubertus,

Or in new I like the Mikov autos because they are inexpensive, and pretty sexy.
The 241 Predator is a nice knife... with a saw blade added. around 120.00 new

Then there are the Chinese made autos like Ganzo for 30.ish bucks but no stag that I know of.

Here's an AB stag damascus that's pretty solid and dependable. The blade may be to short at 3.25". You can find them within your budget. Google AB or SKM switchblade knives to find a dealer.

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't mind picking up a 2nd hand knife as long as it's in good shape and all. The ones that you both suggested are very nice looking. I've seen some AKC autos that look very nice too. Something with a basic blade is all I need. I'm an electrician and sometimes having the ability to open a knife with one hand can make a task 10x easier. Unfortunately I live in NY. so my buying will have to be via the net, and I won't have the ability to the feel of one before I purchase.

Sounds like time for a road trip to me.

To me, these knives mentioned are kind of "weekend" knives. The kind I carry to keep in nice shape.
For a good work type knife I have a Boker 74 auto that was about 50 bucks, and I beat the tar out of it. Aluminum handles with these sort of finger grooves across them. The button needs a firm, and lengthy push to open so I don't worry about there being no safety. They come in all sorts of configurations. with different blade shapes, types, finishes...
Overall I'd call the Boker a work knife, and the others dress up knives but that's just me...

Heck within your budget you could score a Mikov, and a Boker. ::ds::

This hits all your marks for $99.95. It still leaves you enough for down payment on a Les Paul Studio HP.

How about a USA made S30V Smith & Wesson M&P auto?

http://www.adamsknifeworks.com/store/pr ... ts_id=3732

I have one I picked up over a year ago from another knife seller but I haven't EDCed it. Also, I have no connection to this seller.

That S&W is one of the Taylor knives. It is "assembled" in America from China made parts. Not that that is an issue at all it's just not really "Made" here.

The Boker is anyones guess as to where the parts were made.
For the money... they are both fine beaters.

And, the Leverletto was designed by a musician!

I have a Boker Kalishnikov and a Mikov. Either one would make a great EDC.

Boker's Plus Stike Drop Point Stonewash Automatic Knife $37.99 + shipping from a "playful" blade place on the Internet.

3.25" AUS-8 steel blade,
7.875" OAL,
black aluminum handle,
Slide button lock,
plunge lock blade release/lock.
great EDC/tactical carry knife.
4.70 oz.
tip-down/tip-up reversible pocket clip,
Model # 1B0400N
Made in Taiwan.
Excellent value for the money. The blade holds an excellent edge.

You can't beat this one with a stick. ::tu::

Captain Obvious, you're not being very obvious. Are you talking about bladeplay.com? ---► https://www.bladeplay.com/item--Boker-P ... tic--17013

You've been hanging out on BF again haven't you.

Since it's now after Xmas, I hope the OP has already bought his leverlock (and I hope he bought the Bill De Shivs Leverletto).

For other low cost but excellent autos, I'll throw my opinion in for a Ganzo Firebird F7582 (either the G10 or Aluminum handles). For $20 you get an excellent blade shape, razor sharp 440C steel, opens quick and reliably and it comes in a bunch of different colors!

Glad to see you back on AAPK. ::handshake::

This is appreciated, but I want to watch my step. I tend to be seen as abrasive and blunt. I prefer to call it the "direct approach".

I just ordered a Ganzo G-7471-BK from Fasttech. The knife has a 3 1/2" Bowie-type blade. I hope that it is as good as my Model G-719-BK. For $19.02 I don't think that I could have gone wrong. ::tu:: My G-719 is an excellent carry knife, handling small to medium-sized chores with consummate aplomb.

If you don't believe that the Chinese can make a good "budget" auto, you are WRONG!

Opinions? Comments?

In addition to the F77582-AL auto, I also have a Ganzo G7361-W2 and a G7211-GR. I've been wanting to also get a G7471, I just keep spending my knife budget elsewhere... ::doh::

I have a total of 9 Ganzo/Firebird knives, and I don't regret buying any of them. They aren't the most beautiful knives in the world, but for $20, they function well and get the job done FAR better than anything from Elk Ridge, Tac Force and the other gas station brands.

The subject of great EDC switchblades wouldn't be complete without discussing true "pocket autos. Some of the 1950's Colonial knives come to mind. Their 724 is okay in the pocket (albeit a large one). The Famar line is expensive but last three lifetimes.

Would anyone here like to see the return of double-ended, vest-pocket "gentlemen's" automatic knives? ::suspense::
