All About Pocket Knives

I recently acquired this vintage folder with a tang stamp I have never seen before. It is list by Goins page 289 W.S. Co. (inside a star)
Circa 1884-1939. A marking used by W. Schoolhorn & Company.

The folder is a small non bolstered (shadow pattern) pen knife. 2.875 inches closed. It is well used with blade loss (function is fine) but I got it because I like the peach seed bone handles and the long rounded rectangle shield.

Sorry I can't help with the stamp but it is a fine little knife! Kind of unusual(to me anyway)to see bolsterless bone handles. Seen a few stag bolsterless.

It is mostly about the company that is known today as Sargents tools.
The company itself dates themselves from 1870- 1950

Interesting information Ken. When I worked for NCR, I carried a pair of Bernard parallel jaw pliers in my tool kit and they were quite commonly called "Bernard's" by all the servicemen in our branch.

Here are a pair of the previously mentioned parallel jaw pliers. Thought that name sounded familiar. I also collect(among other things)vintage tools.

Ray, those are apparently used for splicing leather belts together. At least that's what I found on Google.

These are the kind we carried and used.

I can't say that I've ever seen the one KnifeKnut posted but I have seen the pair with the wire cutter.

It is amazing the things we take for granted, and even more amazing how much history you learn when researching knives.

I have a very old metal lathe that uses the flat belts. put belt dressing on them too keep them from slipping under load.
