If you have the 1998 edition turn to the back cover and take a look at the Weidmannsheil knife in the upper left corner. What are those V-shaped "blades" next to the screwdriver?

I must have picked up this book a 1,000 times and only noticed them today.

Could be tweezers and an 'ear spoon', tiny, for scooping wax from ear canal; in public ?

Edit: WRONG, totally wrong. i just saw the slider tab to push the tools out. they are not stand alone tools. i should delete what i said above but i will let my dumb hasty answer stand.

I would say shot shell extractor. I've seen the fixed type on bolsters as well as the type that pivots off of a folding post with a different gauge on each side of the pivoting extractor. Both of these type are for a fixed gauge and not adjustable. These are cool in that they adjust to whatever gauge shell you need to pull.

Pictures from the book for reference.

Bottom knife is bolster extractor with 16 and 12 GA.

In about 1964 I recall standing in the sagebrush on a ridge overlooking a grove of buffaloberries. I was frantically trying to dig a shell out of my worn-out old double, with sharptails exploding all around me. Yes, I did break the Boker USA congress pocketknife.

Somehow I can envision that description. Too bad about the Boker. At least it wasn't an old German.

I agree, shot shell extractor.

I think they tighten down as you pull on the knife.
