The seller is describing this camillus bayonet as beyond rare. I don't know if that's true or not so it made me curious. What do you all think?

So it's an old M4 with the barrel loop sawn off and a home made handle. Rare? might not be another one exactly like it. Desirable? not for that kind of money!!

It might be rare, I've never seen a wooden checkered handle on a WWll bayonet, but I'm sure not an expert on such things. and what are the "leather" things behind the guard? barrel band has been cut off too. Looks like a homemade deal to me. I would look for a book by Frank Trzaska on the subject and do some research. I sure wouldn't pay $500 for it. ::handshake:: Terry

If someone offers him $40 ($20?) for that pos, he better take it and dance a little jig.

Yes, a Camillus made WW2 M4 bayonet with the barrel ring cut off and the handle replaced.

The initial M4s had stacked leather handles. Later, they had plastic handles. During the Viet Nam war, a significant number of the (most likely) leather handled bayonets were rehandled with rubber handles on Okinawa.

The seller is down to $199, which is about about $260 more than I'd pay for it.
