All About Pocket Knives

Came across this knife today. Not familiar at all with this company, can tell it's really old. It's a 3 blade. Anyone know anything about this company?? Have included some pictures. Also got a few other knives I'm unfamiliar with, can get pictures if anyone wants to see them. One was a Challenge Cut Co Bridgeport, other was Hoffman Germany.

Here you go. Straight out of Goins encyclopedia. Would love to see the Challenge.

So I'm assuming it must be Henry Taylor Sheffield and not H.H. Taylor Sheffield?

That is what i would assume. That is the acorn symbol on the tang isn't it?

Yes it is the acorn symbol, also added 2 pictures of the Challenge.

Do you know much about the Challenge? Most of these older makers are unfamiliar territory for me. I bought a 30's Boker knife store display today and a bunch of those knives came with it.

Challenge is an old company that actually had it's beginning in Sheffield, England in 1867. In 1877 Frederick Wiebusch of New York bought them. After his death the company became the Wiebusch and Hilfiger Company of New York. In 1899 the company was moved to Bridgeport Conn. and incorporated as the Challenge Cutlery Co. One of their early employees was George Schrade. The company closed in 1928 in the run up to the Great Depression. Their knives are highly collectable.

Awesome thanks. Any idea on value? One of the blades is broken, could re-sharpen it to make it usable again though.
