All About Pocket Knives

Has anyone ever heard of or have any information on a knife company named "Read & Elvidge Sheffield"?
I do not have one to show a picture of. A friend was asking.
I have searched, but the only thing I found was on Worthpoint.

The only thing I could find in Goins was this:

I.Read Sheffield c1848-1870. Read was located at 34 Lambert Street, Sheffield, England. This company manufactured "Bowie" type knives, among other kinds of cutlery.

I also looked for "Elvidge" as a separate entity but could not find anything on him.

Tweedale lists a Isaac Read & Sons who was listed in 1828. Was a scissor maker, who also made all variety of cutlery, including pocket knives. No mention at all of any Elvidge.

What kind of a knife is it?? There are many fake bowie knives made in England where they use a well known name along with a fictitious name to fool prospective buyers. In any case we would need a photo or two of the whole knife and the markings to really help here.

I never saw the knife. I have no pictures of the knife.
A buddy of mine was at a show and saw it. He was thinking about buying it, but wanted to know a little more about it. Unfortunately he had no internet signal. So he called me to see if I could find anything in my books or internet.
Books had nothing. Worthpoint showed one, but apparently not the same, because my buddy said this one had a marlin spike.
All I know is it was a multi bladed knife with a marlin spike and the above tang stamp. My friend is a pretty knowledgeable knife guy and he had never seen one.
Sorry, I know not much help, but all I got.

Sounds like an English sailor's knife but without photos I can't get any idea of age or anything.
