All About Pocket Knives

Got this 885UH in today...
It has LH on the sheepsfoot and UH on the spey. Never seen that before. All the other Walden or NY USA era 885s I have seen have stainless stamped on the pile side of those blades while the later era had nothing. Would seem obvious what UH could stand for, but the LH has me puzzled.

Wow, that is a puzzler. I have two of the 885UH stockman and neither of them is marked like yours. Both of mine are stamped on the front side only, Schrade + USA 885UH. One of mine was made in 1981 or 1982 and the other I don't know.

I have an 885 with the UH stamp on both smaller blades and have seen several others (plus 897's) with the same stamps but I have never seen an LH stamp. Strange.

The LH more than likely stands for Longhorn. Schrade made a Texas Longhorn commemorative knife around 1975 and its blades were stamped LH on the rear. The knife was an 88LH. Chances are that the original blade was replaced with one of those blades or the knife is a Schrade "End of Days" knife and that blade was put in.

I doubt this one is an end of days knife. It has the correct nickle silver liners for this era that aren't jimped, and serialized. But I guess anything is possible for an EOD knife.

I speculate this 885UH had the wrong blade installed since they are both are of the same era.

I'm thinkin' you've got yourself a Left Hand knife.
