All About Pocket Knives

My apologies if this has been covered before, I looked but my wife can tell you I don't always see. Does any one have any experience with the Cigar Box Schrades. Saw a couple on ebay. Say they are hand made. Not very expensive. There are 2 or 3 posted all seem to be sowbellies. Just curious.

...are Taylor brand. I am of the opinion they are not 'real' Schrade knives and unworthy of the name, nor my hard earned cash.

Thanks, gwelker, they seemed awfully reasonable in their pricing (most of them) and it made me wonder about the quality. I noted that there was not mention of steel on the packaging.

The reasonable price is probably because it's made in China. Quality wise it might be ok, but as far as a collectible, it's just another China made trinket.

you can buy several rough riders like it for same cost-the 440a steel in them works fine for me...

The Taylor/china boxes have Handmade Since 1904...the real Schrade boxes have Handmade In The U.S.A. Since 1904

Thanks Alabama and dweb. Big difference between hand made and hand made in USA. After going back and looking again I saw the Made in USA. Need to pay more attention. Thanks again.

I asked about this one right here and was told it's probably a Cigar Box Schrade.

You were told right. Your knife is one of five different serialized Cigar Box Classics made for 2004. The model number for your knife is CSW98.

There were 5 different patterns planned for the 2004 release of the Cigar Box Classic limited edition knives. To my knowledge, only 4 made it to final production. Those include a peanut knife, a premium stockman, a muskrat pattern and a two blade 4 1/8" trapper. The single blade, linerlock knife is only known to me by way of Schrade website archives postings from 2004. I have never seen one anywhere else. The pictures posted below the one of my Cigar Box Classic stockman are from that 2004 Schrade website archive.

In 2003 Schrade introduced the Cigar Box Classic serialized limited edition knives with green bone stag covers. The boxes are the same as the 2004 editions. These came in the same 4 patterns as the 2004 CBC.

Thanks very much for the confirmation. Most appreciated. I don't know too much about Schrade so that information is vital to me. I guess I'll have to shop around for the Cigar Box itself. They show up on eBay from time to time.

There are quite a few of the 'real deal' Cigar Box edition on feebay right now. But most have an asking price of over a hunnurrd bucks. Below is an example...

I guess having the box adds significant value to that knife. That's over twice the price I paid just for the knife itself.

Well that's about par. Having the original box n papers can double a knife's value IMO. Especially one like the Cigar Box editions.

Don't forget about the 100 Anniversary series in blue rope jigged bone...they were going to be in cigar boxes as well

Did those actually make it to production? I know there are some finished and unfinished 100th Anv blue bone floating around w/o a box, but none in a box made it to market from what I hear. I have one of the unfinished blue bone EODs knife.

I have never seen one in a box. I remembered that I snatched this picture from the interweb somewhere a long time ago. I had to do some ferreting to find it in my photo files and I don't know who posted it. I can't find another, better picture of that flyer either. Getting one of those knives in the box would awesome!

Not going to see them in the boxes, but Doug and some fellow in Marion, NC know a little more about that blue bone.
