Can anyone please help me ID'ing this Camillus?, i.e. Model, Year, and maybe tell me why it is not stamped with a Model number on the Tang. I have searched all my books, and I think may be a 72 model but I am not sure. Any info would be Greatly Appreciated. Thanks in Advance! donjr

Donjr, definitely a 72 pattern with a boy scout blade for the master. The boy scout has a pattern # of 1047 and is exactly like a 72 except there is no pattern number on the master and it carries the boy scout shield. The tang stamp indicates 1998 to closing. Probably made near the closing in 2007 with whatever parts they had left.

The knife is a Camillus 72 .It seems it fitted with a scout blade with is 1047 for some reason they never stamped the scout blades. It might have had a scout shield which was replaced with a 72 shield.
The tang stamp was one of the ones used to they closed in 2007.There is a few knives with a etched tang stamp just before they closed.
Here a topic on the knife's

Do you say "Boy Scout blade" because back tang is not stamped "72" but all other aspects are the same ?

That is correct Roland, Although some of the Boy Scout Blades seem to lack a swedge on the pile side they are all unmarked.

Thanks Greg. Then i find it easier to see it as the same blade, all made likely in the same run of blade making and then depending upon anticipated demand, some get stamped.
Thanks for clearing this up for me. The BSA version being said to have a 'different' blade has had me confused and studying a blade from each and then unable to spot the differences.

I am not the expert here but i can begin the answer. I am sure Camillus made more with the "72" on the tang than they did with the BSA shield, however both versions are still frequently seen on ebay. As to relative value it depends on which 72. The ones with bone handles are worth more`as are ones with a half saber grind and then bone plus full saber grind = most valuable.
I am sure others will post more specific details.

Donjr if you really want to learn about the Camillus 72's and 1047 Boy Scouts and all things remotely connected to them , then I would suggest that you go to this thread
viewtopic.php?f=63&t=28718
and read it start to finish . Not only will you learn a lot about 72's but you will be highly entertained as well. Since it was started in March of 2012 it's almost like a history lesson of AAPK itself and you will meet a lot of the characters that made this such a great place to come to. It's fairly long but I find it very entertaining and I go back and read it from time to time whenever I can. ::tu::

Greg, it also documents the learning curve we've gone through, from just flat out guessing to some semi-facts.

Yes it does Jerryd. It reads almost like a chronicle of a great quest. THE 72 HUNTERS. Bryan should make a documentary from that thread. :D

Grant I'm sure you're right. We are probably wrong on abut half the stuff we think we know for sure, I think Camillus planned it that way. ::nod::
On another note here is the first first gen 72 I have seen on the bay in some time. A sad looking little fellow.
