All About Pocket Knives

Gents,
I bought this set over the weekend but could not even figure out how the dang tools go in the handle. Before I break it what do I have? And is something stuck or maybe missing to fit the tools into the handle?

I have a very similar tool kit. It was my grandfather's and my mom gave to me about 50 years ago. The tools on mine snap into the handle from the side or front. One of these days I will get around to doing some research on it. That's a nice set you have there. Ken.

The tool kits with the double notch on the tang of the implements are usually fitted into the knife by depressing a projection on the back of the handle(like a modern lock back knife)and one notch is fitted into the handle on one pivot and rotated until it stops and then the lock is released.I cannot see one on your handle but it might be under the hold down strap. I also don't recall ever seeing one with a button on the side.That may possibly be a release for the mechanism. Try depressing the button and rotating one side of the handle.It might swing out of the way and allow you to hook the tool into the handle. The missing tool is I believe a corkscrew. What is the maker's name on the handle? Can you get a better closeup of it?

It is possible that there is a metal lever that can be pulled away from the handle frame.

Pictures of the sides and ends of the handle that show the metal might provide a clue.

Super cool forum, I'll have to spend some time on here during work in the cubicle to get up to speed on pocketknifes. I recently picked up this German tool kit at a local auction. I'm guessing it is post WW1 but that is a guess. I tried to use it but could not get the tools into the handle, must be a trick to it. Checking to see if this is possible a military piece before I move it along. Thank you in advance for any comments!

Oh yes there is the lever on the side of the handle. It's very similar to a Bonsa that I have. Just pull that lever out from the bottom and you can insert the tools into the slot on the top or on the side. All of the tools will fit in the top slot bit only certain ones will fit in to the side slot like the cork screw, punch and drill bits.
