Schrade LR 7

Not a typo error! I just saw a "near mint LR 7", and I think I recall a post about this knife -- but now predictably cannot find it again. It truly a customized brother of LB 7. I don't find it listed in your Schrade catalogs. Appreciate your available history and notes on this knife.

Just a worn-out LB-7. Maybe a stamp had a chip broken off or maybe it just says LB-7. The "R" is a no-go.

My bet is no such beast, not a USA Schrade factory original knife.
Altering a production knife and then claiming it is a 'super rare' find in the hopes of snagging a novice is not new.
However pictures of this knife are needed to be 100% certain.

A related topic recalled, is the ubiquitous 84OTs, which of course do not exist, but there are thousands of stamped 34OTs which one would swear say "8" instead of "3." See these all the time on ebay.

The ebay link shows this to be not only an LR7 but a 4 pin LR7 with a 6 digit serial number. What a find. Ya just never know what previously unknown Schrade will pop up next.

Agreed, that is a likely possibility, but I had the ol' glass out and laid my studied eye on it sure looked unaltered to me! Pictures to follow, but till middle of next week. Thanks for your reply and please watch for the pictures to come.

The LB stood for Lock Back, and was used on all the UH lockbacks in the style of the LB7 with the exception of the scrimshaws and Old Timers. If your knife is a lockback that looks identical to an LB7, then that's what you have. There was one with a drop point blade that was marked LB7DP. There were no LR7's, those were the result of broken stamps.

Bingo.
And, for what it is worth:

Cal, yes same blade but this one was done for the European market as a standard model with 440 STAINLESS etched on the blade. That does say LB7DP, it's just a bit below the bolster:

The LTD knives were generally special factory order or limited edition knives. Gotta love that birdseye maple!

Finally got a chance for some pictures as promised. As revealed in the pictures, it could use some cleaning, but the markings and condition of the knife are clear. As previous replies have stated, Schrade did not make a LR 7, so what exactly do I have then? It is without any doubt a customized version, rather than a standard factory design. Again, I appreciate your information resources, certainally more than I have at hand.

You kind of answered your own question. It is a LB7, an older 4 pin LB7 at that, that has been customized. I've seen several on feebay with similar customizing and like the one's LRV posted.

As has been stated Schrade never made an LR7, that is an LB7 stamped with a bad stamp.

I know that the stamp on your knife looks like LR7, but believe me it's an LB7. Poorly stamped knives are not new from Schrade they are common enough. However some people do collect misstamped knives just for the novelty of them. But I've never seen them sell for more than the properly stamped version of the same knife.

Thanks for this info...I would have kept believing that they made an LR7...but when you look at it closly you can see its missing the bottom of the "B"and is not an "R" Kinda cool!

I learn something every time I log in here!
