Levine's Guide shows a John Sheldon and a Thomas Sheldon from Sheffield. Not sure if your tang stamp is a Sheldon but it could be. Circa 1893.

Does anyone have one these books?

Edit: I found a reference to "Moses Eadon & Sons" of Sheffield that says "Cutlery & edge tools". It is on page 82 of this link: https://sha.org/assets/documents/Tradem ... leware.pdf

I have Tweedale and it is highly recommended for historical info - it is hundreds of pages of Sheffield makers and some good factual text (maybe some trademark illustrations and original photos but it is not a compendium of tang stamps, and about +/- 800 pages )..... Tweedale maybe helpful with some tang stamps but my guess based on letters showing is Sheldon like bdev... I've had a few knives like this - reminds me of playing "wheel of fortune" trying to figure out the few letters for the full stamp :) ...
