All About Pocket Knives

Howdy, I'm trying to find info on this set. Knife's blade is 4 3\8".The handle is 4" and 1" wide. The Hatchet is 10 5\8" long. The handle is 4 1\8" long. The blade is 6 1\8" long and 5\8" wide The head is 4 5\8" wide and 2" wide. The handles are leather washers. see pix

The knife is an L66. The hatchet is an L10.

When sold as a set with interlocking sheaths, the set was marketed as the L6610.

Without pictures of the ricasso stamps, I can't say when they were made.

I would need to see pics of the sheaths and stamps to try to determine if they were a set or if someone created a frankenset.

It's also easier for other folks to visualize what things look like if your pics include overall shots of the whole knife or hatchet along with a known object for scale, like a ruler, tape measure, dollar bill, etc. Being held in a generic hand doesn't provide a good reference.

Howdy, I'm new to this but with members like you it will not take long for me to get going. Do you know how much they are worth? It looks they have been sharpened 2 or 3 times and all the washers are tight. Thank you very much z z!!!!!!!

Value?? Hard to say. I've seen them go for anywhere from $50 to $300, depending on condition, who was bidding for the set, where Jupiter was in relation Venus and Mars, and whether or not any Vampires danced under the light of a full moon with a few werewolves while drinking mead.

Those top dollar sales are to folks with more money than sense. There are several sets on fleabay running at $150 on up and they have been sitting there for a while. The sellers are probably waiting for suckers to come along.

From just the pictures and no physical examination, my max bid on fleabay would be no more than $100 if I was desperate for a set. The rust spots on the blades, the cut sheath throat, and overall appearance. Someone else might bid more.

Clear pictures of the stamps to nail down the time frame might change my opinion. Does the knife have a model number on either the ricasso or the guard? Are the knife guard and initial hatchet disk brass or aluminum? They appear to be aluminum.

Hill_Billy, I just sold one a few weeks ago on ebay that was maybe a little better condition than yours for $108.50. Terry

I bought a set about 18 months ago and paid $100. Mine cleaned up to be in better condition than the pictures above would indicate. That said, I think these sets are very cool. I think they offer tremendous cool for the buck. Better than many other knives etc. that cost a whole lot more

Back about 1959-60 or so, these greeting card outfits would send a catalog around
and if you sold so many boxes of the cards you could pick out the prize pictured.
I sold like 12 or 18 boxes of cards one summer, and picked me out a Western
knife / hatchet set in leather handles held in one leather sheath...
That was my 1st knife of my own !!!
