Anyone have a guess as to who made this sword, where it was made or when? Posting for a friend, sorry for his not so clear cellphone pictures. He says it's 16" overall and has a really unique hilt. No markings that he mentioned. All replies are greatly appreciated.

I would say it was made in the Phillippines, sometime in the last century. I am no expert!

Mel, because ot the detail of the hilt you think it's 1900s or 1800s?
Thanks for your reply.

John - I just think the way the blade widens and the detailing as it joins the hilt looks Philippine to me. Here is a photo of a currently made sword for sale by

I said last century because it does not look new but not really old either.

Most of the keris I have seen have a wavy blade and are relatively soft. The handles are usually of pistol grip shape. Almost impossible to date within a couple hundred years. Looks like a nice straight one though.A guess: Sometime after 1900.
