All About Pocket Knives

I just bought a bunch of pocket knives, can someone please tell me how much they're worth?

Samantha77 I don't see much in your pile of knives that would carry much collector value except perhaps the 2 pearl handled knives in the last 2 pictures. A close up of the markings on the tang of the blades would be helpful in determining that. By the way to AAPK.

Yes welcome to AAPK. The pearl knife in the next to the last picture looks like the best of the bunch and better pictures would help.

My mother in law said all the yellow ones are also mother of pearl. she also said the brown one is bone. one is a hopalong cassidy knife from the movie

i will take more pictures soon when I am able but the writing is very hard to see

Samantha, the yellow ones are celluloid, a very early type of plastic. We affectionately call it mother of toilet seat. The pearl knife in the last picture looks to be of German origin, not sure about the pearl knife in the next to last picture though, can you read what it says on the tang of the larger blade?

This one is Southern and Richardson Sheffield marked on all 3 blades. came in a case

Samantha I am far from an expert on Sheffield knives but I do know that Southern &Richardson is a very old Sheffield, England Cutler. Also if this knife is authentic the fact that there is no England under the Sheffield could mean that the knife was made before 1890. As I said I am far from an expert on these so it would be prudent to hear other opinions before jumping for joy on the couch.

Edit: One more thing the picture of the eggs in a nest on the obverse of the makers Mark's was used by this company until 1900.

While I was going to keep the sheffield no matter what, how much is the griffon worth?

I collect Griffon, Germany knives in part because they can usually be won on an ebay auction for little money, under $50, rarely more. The price of an old knife has nothing to do with original price or quality of materials & workmanship. The price is strictly based on supply & demand and the condition of the knife. Not many USA knife collectors collect German made knives and there are quite a few German made knives 'out there', hence the low prices.
I would need to see enlarged in focus close ups of the knife to give a more accurate figure than "under $50". In excellent condition it might be a littler higher.
