All About Pocket Knives

What a Knife this must have been new. Maybe in the last of the 1800s? Looks like Pearl maybe? Two and 1/2 inches closed.
Who do you think made it. Seems to be of high quality. Brass liners, Brass rivets. The end to end embellishment is really nice.
Any opinions?

W.B. I know nothing about that knife but I will agree it must have been a real looker when it was bright and new. I hope someone can give you more information.

Those were made primarily in Germany although I have one from Sheffield. Most are pearl but I have one in bone and another in ivory colored celluloid. Not sure of the exact years they were popular but I would venture probably just before WWI. The one pictured has finer fluting than most I have seen. Here are a couple from my accumulation.

I think it is remarkable that no matter what knife is asked about (from anywhere in time or space), there is a 99% chance one of you guys has a collection of them...

If it was marked, "FILMORE CUTLERY", it was imported by Millard Filmore Robeson between 1891 and 1895.

Here is a little Filmore I have.

It is marked "ILMORE" and "FILMORE" is the only marking from Germany that i have seen with "ILMORE". No KILMORE, DILMORE, MILMORE, or GILMORE, etc.
So knife is from 1890's as Charlie has said. I too have similar German pen knives with fluted pearl and threaded bolsters but none marked "FILMORE". It was a fairly common pattern as k7k has already implied.

So true.... That is why this is a GREAT place to learn about knives!
