All About Pocket Knives

A little something I've made a while ago.

Carbon Gryphon's knife with oak and antler handle.

I've said it before, seeing your knives makes me wish I could carry a fixed blade.

That’s a nice one yet again. Looks like it would be right handy here in the farm. Or in the hunting field as well.

Much to admire in that piece. I very much like the appearance of the handle and the detail work on the scabbard. I am curious as to the length of the handle and where the balance point of the knife is.

How come you are not allowed to carry a fixed blade??
I know that Britain has this moronic anti-blade craze lately, and all. Hope the Americas are not next!

Yeah, I wasn't allowed to use damascus or any fancy material on this one. It had to be a worker, so it is plain 5160

Different states have their own laws. No problem carrying one in my state. It’s not uncommon at all.

Glad you like it!
The handle was around 11 cm, 4.5 inch maybe.
This one was a bit nose heavy, because of the blade length, the balance was before the bolster, if I remember right.

Hmm, that must be weird. I mean, it is one gargantuan country, but with different rules depending on the area you are in?! Must be a lot of confusion when travelers broke the local law, wen they don't even know that they are doing it

It most definitely can be! Throw in carrying firearms, both open and concealed carry, and it can be right interesting. Lol

Yeah, I didn't thought about guns, that surely could be a more serious case than a mere knife.

Csizmar, in my state, we may carry either guns or knives openly. I carry both but I prefer concealed. In other states a 3' pocket knife in my pocket would get me jail time. Kinda silly. Know before you go. Now if I had one of your knives, I just might carry it open.

I don't carry a fixed blade for several reasons.

I work in a school for kids with behavior and learning problems. No one needs a kid like that snatching a blade. I avoid the temptation and don't carry.

I live in an area that is pretty populated, in a state that is already a bit paranoid about carrying weapons of any kind - New Jersey. Besides, it would look very out of place. I don't want to draw attention to myself so I don't carry.

I don't hunt or camp so I really have no need for a fixed blade. My 2-3 blade pocket knife handles all the tasks I may need a knife for throughout the course of my day.

That pocket knife is also inconspicuous. It only comes out when needed, no flashing it around, do the job and slip it back into the pocket.

Now if I lived out in the country, hunted, fished and camped on a regular basis, I would certainly carry a fixed blade.
And to be honest, it would be a very tough choice as to who I would ask for a custom build - you or Tony Wood! You are both extremely talented!!

Yeah, it does sound kinda silly. I never understood why some countries made such a hassle about knives

Yeah, those are sure pretty good reasons, my friend. I completely understand you, especially the school stuff. Kids with behavior problems and knives don't really go together, that is quite true
I live in a small village, surrounded with woods, so no one really cares about such things here, but when I go into the city, I usually only have a smaller higonokami with me (damascus of course ), it is mostly enough for opening packages and the likes.
