While browsing around this morning, feeling a mite slow, like I need to go hibernate I came across these videos of Katana swords. This ain't cheap steel, pretty amazing stuff. Lot of Japanese languguage, but I just look at the pictures anyway.

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.

The biggest surprise to me was the Katana that took 7 hits from a .50 cal round to break it, one or two looked like it split the bullet. Since those are military rounds, they are solid tipped bullets and 1/2 inch in diameter. The 9mm, never stood a chance. I assume that it was a soft tip

HUKK, do you know of a company that makes/sells GOOD Katanas, that could actually stand up to some use?

i bet it would break with one shot to the flat of the blade.

Of that I have no doubt. I think we both know the power and range capabilities of the .50 round, same round was mounted in jets to bring down aircraft in dog fights. I don't know if the still do, I imagine that the Warthog still uses that round. I'm just surprised that it took 7 rounds and that it split at least one bullet in half. I think it speaks highly of the Japanese masters that are making these. Nice to see the resurgance of the katana by highly trained masters and it looks like they can put a great edge on them. Those masters sure have it good, if you watched the making of a katana, the apprentices do all the heavy work.

I see Bill gave a site, but for one of these Masters to make one can be like buying a car pricewise.

You can build one for around $500 + . The Classic Katana.
