All About Pocket Knives

Reading the thread by Timstools regarding Aurum etchings, were the Schrade Clasp knives, for example the 150th Walden Village knife and also The 75 Schrade anniversary knife etched by Aurum, I know the blades have Frank Giorgianni's name on them just not sure who done the etching. Thanks

I asked that question some time ago, and my answer ( if I recall ) was that he did only the Texas bowies. I know frank did some of the work. I will check again next time at Canal St. LT

No, we didn’t do them. Most of our things have a recognizable style as you may notice.

As I said I Frank Georgianni did most of them I do not remember on the NKCA I think someone else may have done that one. The clasp issues were 76 13 colonies ( ordered by Jim Parker I have his original letter to Schrade for the order some where. 77 Trail of tears, 78 Custer 79 the 75th Ann models in staglon, real stag, and one 75th ann proto type of a Scrim which they never sold. They were stuck with a lot of clasp knives because of that decision so in 1980 they used them for the Walden edition in 1980. Also the presidential TR ( these were one of the few issues hand scrimmed. I am attaching some terrible pics of my set of all of these which includes the proto scrim a scrim done by Frank for me for the 100th ann from a blanks well as all the other clasp versions. I also have in this display the original tooling , tang stamps and dies used for these. it should be noted that of these only the 75th ann versions were fileworked When i put this together in order to make it a one of a kind set Frank was good enough to filework the rest of the issues with the same pattern making them all match. LT, Tims pic of the Walden Clasp is rather large, has it shifted your pictures over to the right of your screen, do you see a bar at the bottom of your page to move the frame over.

Now that is funny. That should show the fantastic acumen I have regarding computers. Perhapes when i need a tax loss write off I will go into the computer diagnosis business. Damn I really thought it was martians. I had my bags packed and was ready to leave with them thankyou for the explanation. I wonder if anyone else will realise it. LT your MAVICA is superb compaired to my new Camera on my new Mobile Phone. I thought I be smart and this morning I took the photo below.

I purchased this phone camera off an online auction for $230 AUD it was supposed to be a $800 NOKIA 5.5 MP N95 instead it ended up being a NOKLA 2 MP N95 (note spelling). I got badly stung!!! Anyway i can see the funny side of it.

LT, you might just need a bit more light in your pics or buy a cheap 3.2 MP? It would have to be better than my phone camera.

Tim, that is an excellent shot of the Walden knife as are your other pics, except for the one above do mind disclosing what camera you used to take the other pics, they seem so very clear and sharp, I only ask as I am always trying to improve my photography.

Yes sure Rusty its a 10MP A640 Canon powershot. It is a really good camera. I typed in "camera review" on net and found site that compaired all the latest ones and showed photos of each to compair there performance.

The Cannon A640 was the clear leader of them all but in reality a really good photo for forum and ebay can be made with a $100 dollar camera and they are around the 3 to 5 MP at that price as there seem to be alot of reduced specials around. Besides the photos here have to be reduced in size to go on forum which always degrades them a little in clarity anyway.

The big photos (like my walden clasp) on this forum are about 1600x1200 which is only about 3.2 MP and they are cheap as chips now.

Here is one that looks very similar to mine except its an earlier model. I have little doubt it would take fantastic photos. I paid $575 for my 10MP so $116 for a Canon 7MP is cheap.

Here is an example this is only a 1 Mega Pixel photo @ 640x480 taken inside near a window I reduced it on the camera to the smallest possible size before taking the photo. Its the same 2 knives as in photo above. You can see the detail on the etch is still quite good.

This is a passion that developed just from collecting knives.

Rusty here is the site for reviews I was reffering to. It is the best one I have found for reviews of cameras. Just type in the camera you are interested in and you can get accurate side by side compairisons with photo results compaired in great detail. This one is for my camera.
