Note the shield from a 1970s knife. The routing job in the bone around the shield looks like it was done by a drunk! Bone jigging and color don't even remotely look like Case. Seller description says it's peach seed bone!

I do not know enough about Case Tested to have an opinion about the handles other than that it obviously not peach seed jigging, or any Case jigging that I am familiar with. I will say that the seller has posted an extremely good set of photos of the knife. I wish more Ebay sellers posted as good of photos as his.

There is one thing that makes me think that the knife might be a genuine Case. Where the back of the main blade and springs meet, instead of a smooth transition there appears to be an uneven step down from backsprings to blade. That is something I only see in Case 6380s and some German whittlers, never in China knives.

It may be Case blades and frame. It's not Tested, and those handle covers don't look like a Case. The seller offers a refund so may not know what they're selling. Doesn't mean the knife is right - it's not.

I don't think anyone is saying these fakes are made in China. My personal conjecture is that the blades with the Tested tang stamp are made somewhere (China, Pakistan, Russia, etc, etc) and sold to people in the USA that are then buying the rest of the parts and assembling these knives in their garages. The blade mfr might not even actually be in on the "scam" - they might just be a contract mfr that was given the specs & a purchase order, and they built what was ordered. That might be why we see so many different handle materials, shields, etc on these fakes.

I look at this way: If there really were this many mint condition Tested knives available for sale, then the price of Tested knives should be far lower!

All I can say is , wow.

Other than the shield, no part of that knife is real Case. I don't know what it was made out of, but not a Case.

These counterfeit knives are made [all parts] right here in the good old USA by people that know all the details necessary to construct these "fakes" having once been a part of the legal manufacturing these knives.

I am certainly not going to argue the the man who wrote the book!

One thing that puzzles me: after going to the trouble to make a fake Case, why chose scales that are not like anything that Case used? I guess I just do not think like a counterfeiter.

We must understand that these knives are not made for the "collector" but for the sole purpose to be displayed to an audience of hundreds of thousands of people of which a certain percentage do not know details of original Case knives. Pretty handles appeal to the uninformed buyer. I must say also that these knives are bought by the well informed to be resold to the novice at the local flea market. "Pretty" maters!!!!

As far as fakes go, ive seen worse lol.

the 80 being a highly faked knife out of Kentucky usually has its own signature handle, which this is not.

Although this doesn't look as good as "pick bone" style from back in the day, maybe that the was the look it was going for.

The shield is a Case shield, but you would think they would use a tested era shield with the smaller, closed c, and put more realistic handles on it.

Tested shields are more difficult to find. These counterfeiters rely on ignorant buyers who dont know the difference - too many uninformed collectors just read the letters on the stamp or shield without knowing how to read the rest of the knife. I was that gullible once myself. If you're not able to spot the other "tells", you're probably not knowledgeable enough to know the differences between shields either.

We see it everywhere from knife collecting to politics - the uninformed are easily misinformed, and easily mislead!

If you could come up with a source for realistic old Case greenbone,you would be counterfeiters best friend.
