Hey y'all.... look at your pictures when you post

Y'all got any ideas about how to help people with the side-ways picture problem??

Man... I am getting a bad creek (crick) in my neck from looking at other folks side-ways posted pictures....
I have such a bad case of OCD that the experience of looking at sideways pictures messes up my concentration... LOL. I know it might not bother some of you and if I am in the minority here.... I will just have to live with it.

So..... just as a laugh.... here is one that might just show y'all what I experience....

Mike,

Crop the photo before you post it whether you need to or not. Always works for me.

Yep... this is true..... you see, I'm not the one with the problem.
Other folks are doing this.

I was trying to find a way to see if I'm the only one that the side-ways pictures was bothering....... :D

I only read and post from my phone these days. If I take a picture vertically and try to post it, it will automatically flip it sideways. I am not given the option of cropping the pic. My way around this, is anytime I take a pic with the intention of posting it to aapk, I always hold the phone / camera horizontally, which ensures that when it posts it will be oriented properly.
So if your pics always show up sideways and you dont have the option of cropping them, or just dont want to fool around with it, just take your pics sideways to begin with and save the hassle. Works for me.

Understood, Mike and no, you're not the only one. It irritates me too. ::nod::

Mike, I really bothers me when I post a picture that is oriented correctly and magically it turns a quarter turn on it’s side. I have had that happen a few times and still don’t understand why it happens. When I move the picture from my photo album it’s correct, but after you hit submit it suddenly flips. I don’t know how to tell in advance that it’s going to happen. Nor do I know how to correct it when it posts that way. Technology hard, hurt my head.

I know what you mean.... hurts mine too.

You know.... I wonder if there is a reason for stuff like this happening...... that maybe our web master could help with?
I don't know... I'm just throwing ideas out there.....

But, you know.... these pictures are gonna be around for a LONG time for LOTS of folks to see.

Mike, these may help. The first three stickies were written to at least partially help with this. I mainly use my iPhone, so I’m most familiar with that method. Cuz did the one for Android I believe. The biggest issue is to make sure you little camera level icon thingy is turned the right way when you take the pic. Otherwise you’ll have to jump through some hoops.

I sure hope some of the folks who post the side-ways pictures see this.....

I pointed out the side-ways pictures to a moderator and the moderator suggested that I post a thread here.....
Well, I did and it seems like everyone that reads it thinks I am the one with the problem.... Sorry y'all.... it's not me posting side-ways pics. It just bothers me.....LOL.

Maybe I need to ask if there is a BIG BOLD jumps out at you PLACE to tell the side-ways folks how to do their pics correctly..

Is there a way to let everyone else know what to do?

Maybe I just need to learn to live with it......

I take most if not all of my pics with my I phone BUT I copy them to my computer. Then I edit them for size and orientation.
After that they post just fine.

Mike there are a few threads on the subject in the 'Tips & Tricks' Forum but people don't read them. There have been several discussions and much research done on this issue with the results posted on the forum but people don't read. Reorienting them is a very easy thing to do but people don't read.

I got tired of putting information out there only to have it ignored so I started just flipping them right side up but if you do that it is just enabling because in addition to not reading people don't even try. So I quit doing that (mostly). I'm tired and I no longer care. No offense intended.

I wonder if anyone sells a monitor that can rotate 90 degrees vertically. That way when I see one of those photos I could just rotate the monitor :D

If you are in windows 7 or 10, and you open the picture with the built-in Windows viewer (just double click the picture), you can then rotate it left or right with one click. When you close the picture, the rotated picture is written to your hard drive.

I think some of the problem comes from people that post the picture to the forum directly from their phone. I never do that, I always move the picture to my PC, then post to the forum from my PC.

I always move the photo from my phone to my PC but that does not stop it from flopping over on its side. The only way I can tell ahead of posting that it's going to happen is to upload it and then click "preview' to see how the picture will orient. I've got photos I'd love to post right now in the outdoors forum that I can't use because of this issue. I've tried to rotate them on my PC to offset the change in orientation that occurs here but it has not helped. I'm technically challenged on my best days and I've not been able to circumvent this detour even with all the help Jerryd has provided. Drives me nuts!
It's never an issue when I post photos taken with my Canon camera so I guess I just need to keep it with me at all times and forget using the camera on my phone.

Phil I'm with you on this. I always thought I was pretty smart about figuring this kind of stuff out eventually but ever since I got this new Samsung S8 active most of the pictures I take with it will with out rhyme or reason post sideways on AAPK so I have stopped posting pics from my phone. I have tried all the suggestions but none work and it doesn't happen when I post to Facebook or other sites only on AAPK. Something in AAPK software doesn't click with my phones software.

Oh.... no offense taken Jerry..... What brought this thread about....
There was SEVERAL side-ways pics in one particular thread I was following.... SO, I made a report / complaint to the mods....
Well, dale sent me a PM and basically said what you just said.
He then told me to post a thread here for suggestions about "how to fix people" BUT, I guess that point is moot.... You can't fix people.

As I have said above.... I will just have to learn to live with it.

That is weird Phil.... Not saying it doesn't happen i'm just saying.... weird...LOL.
I take 99% of my pics with my phone and I use microsoft office picture editing software to downsize and orient my pictures..... and I haven't had a problem yet.
(BUT...... Now that I have said that, the next picture I post will be side-ways......)

You know... The problem just has to be from that CUTE LITTLE thing where you can turn your phone and the picture stays in the same orientation.
Well, what pi$$e$ me off is when the dang picture on my phone is sideways and I try to turn my phone so i can see it straight.... Then the dang picture flops back over sideways..... No way to win this battle.

OK.... my final shot across the bow.....

I am gonna be like Jerry said..... People don't read..... SO, even if there was a giant hand that would come out of your computer and slap you if you posted a sideways pic.....LOL.... some folks would not go read and find out WHY and HOW TO MAKE IT STOP.... They would just start ducking.

So, I give..... I will resign myself to the fact.... this is a people thing and can't be fixed. My OCD will just have to live with it.
OH WELL..... Onward!
