HOLLEY MANFG Co. LAKEVILLE, CONN
I do not know if this knife is all original. I am not posting it here because i believe it to be a fake. I am posting it here to ask others to please comment.
In his description of this mint 3 1/2" 2 blade pearl gunstock, the seller goes to much length to assure readers that it is 100% all original and that he is well known among collectors.
As the seller states "most collectors have never seen a Holley like this", i have never seen anything like it either.
Holley has been a frequently faked brand. I was told of a skilled knife mechanic who rebuilt broken Holley knives into 'new Holley' knives in great number in 1960's.
I do not get 'the feeling' from this knife that it is old, not based on condition, not based on anything. just a feeling.

I'm no expert on Holley but everyone I've ever seen was well used. One in that condition would be unusual, plus that Gunstock pattern scares me a bit. A favorite pattern of the counterfeiters.

Re: HOLLEY MANFG Co. LAKEVILLE, CONN
Thank you Dimitri for posting rest of the pictures.
If i saw these pictures, no text, i would say not 'real'. However his text claims much experience with knives and he puts his entire reputation and integrity on this being 100% all original. It is hard to dismiss such adamant statements as simply being false, so i do not know what to think.
He also states: "My family is well known in the knife collection world and celluliodheros has been selling good knives for a long time on Ebay.”
Does anyone here know this seller and his 'well known' family ?

No problem Roland.
The identity of the seller has been revealed to me by a member here in a PM. I am not going to publicly disclose the name other than to say he is a member of my knife club and possibly this is his son selling the knives on eBay.
I discussed knives with him a great length at the Mystic knife show several years ago, he collects silver fruit knives and pearl handle knives, one topic of discussion was IMO a lot of knives he was displaying were rehandled in MOP, at which time he admitted to rehandeling them himself. Not a problem their his knives but it does become a problem when the knives are resold.
This knife has lots of problems the most obvious is the glaring rehandle job.

Re: HOLLEY MANFG Co. LAKEVILLE, CONN
Thank you for your posts. I needed this input to counteract my naive nature.
When i first saw the picture of this knife, side view, blades open, my instant reaction was "No Way". Then i read all of the text. He is so adamant that this knife is all original that he stakes his reputation on it. And his reputation he says is well known and respected by other knife collectors.
This had me doubting my "No Way". How could someone make such strong statements if he did not believe them ? And being a long time knife collector in a family of knife collectors, how could he be wrong ?
The lesson for me is to believe more in my own judgement and accept that some people will say anything to get what they want.
kj
edit to add: Sold for $470.85
Actual value, about $20, same as a Rough Rider because it is just another knife.

Well said Roland, so often we buy the story first because it's so compelling that we forget to read the knife. I have a special "I Was Burned" knife roll to remind myself that stories are like noses, everyone has one.

I have met this seller and he is IMO an honest gentleman. In my limited acquaintance with him I can say that I do not doubt that he believes this knife to be genuine or he would not present it as such. On the other hand I can't say that I like the knife.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Is the seller or his father, not a member here and also at BladeForums?

If he believes the knife is genuine he's living in denial, especially if he rehandled the knife himself.

Hey Guys, This dude needs to be kicked off & band from this site,,,Someone should report this guy to the Admin who can make this happen immediately.
There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of behavior. Knife is totally a fake & we should not have to tolerate this type of humiliation. This truly is a con man no matter who is connected too & he must go period in my humble opinion.
Kindest Regards,
Mark

Mark, he posted the knife on ebay. If he gets kicked off a site it should be ebay.
I understand your sentiment but if membership in AAPK is dependent on our behaviour elsewhere it would result in chaos here.
Who would be the 'Judge' ? and what constitutes behaviour that is unacceptable, etc. Just too big a can of worms.
Our 'system' of posting suspected fakes in this forum lets many know who is selling fakes and thereby who we need to avoid.
We do not need to take matters further.
