All About Pocket Knives

What do you think about this one? I have a Queen #64, but its main blade is etched with "Queen Cutlery Co. #64," with "Tool Steel" on the next line. Also, the stamp at the base of the blade says, "Titusville, PA," and "PH-D2."

This one has none of those things, and has "Queen" in script letters on the main blade. An older version, maybe?

I love the Queen #64 canoe and am looking for a backup before they become even more difficult to find, but this one's unlike what I've seen before.

I am certainly no expert but I think it's legit. If it is a counterfeit it looks like a good one. The Queen Canoe frame has a certain "look" that distinguishes it from other Canoes and this one has that look.

I don't know how to describe what I mean but that's what I'm seeing.

Thank you, Rick. Looking at mine and comparing it with the one on eBay, I think I do get what you mean. There is a similar look/visual "feel" that both of them have. That's a good point. Thanks!

Your new one is a fairly recent Queen. Might have been one of the "Heritage" series ? I do not collect Queen but i know yours is correct, a USA Queen, and a beauty too.

Thanks. I do love my Queen! I'm sure it is pretty recent. Got it through knives.com a couple of years ago.

Just wanted to post an update. Looking in James Parker's "Official Price Guide to Collector Pocket Knives," I found an entry for Queen that says the simple script markings (like those on the canoe I was asking about) were used in the early 1970s. That plus the fact that the knife didn't seem to raise any flags for anyone here led me to pull the trigger and order it.

The knife originally posted is a recently made Queen knife, post-2000. It most likely is tang stamped QUEEN CITY, though the CITY cannot be seen. During Queen's later years, they used the QUEEN CITY (script) stamp for knives made with 1095 steel. They may have been exclusive to SMKW, I am not certain of that.

As an aside, Queen never made the #64 canoe pattern prior to 1974 or 1975. They introduced it as a new pattern then, in competition with Case's popular 62131 canoe pattern. At that time and into the late 70's they only made the #64 with winterbottom delrin handles and no shield.
