I am a big slingshot enthusiast and shoot alot, make alot of slingshots and even sell a few here and there, along with bands, pouches ect. Velocities up to 400 fps have been reached with big (4 ft long) slingshots with extended forks to get a longer draw and using small .25 ammunition, my goal was to meet a 300 fps limit with a traditional style slingshot. after a long time of dreaming, testing and thinking it out, last night I cut out some bands at a couple different dimensions and took them out back this morning to test them, I finally reached my goal! using 7/16" steel balls I was able to shoot velocities up to 400 fps (drawing further back than I normally do) my standard draw length allowed me to shoot velocities ranging from 295 fps to 331 fps. I'm a very happy camper. Here is a cheap cut and paste from one of the slingshot forums I posted it on.

have been trying to develop some bands that will zip a 7/16" ball out of a traditional style fork at at least 300 fps. It's fairly easy to achive this kind of velocity when shooting light projectiles from extended forks. I went out this morning and shot a few rounds over the chrony with a new set of bands I tied up last night. It was kinda cool out. the first few shots ran around 200ish, but after a few shots for the bands to get warmed up it upped to 295, 308, 319, 331 and so on it kept most of the shots in the 295-325 range, I was overjoyed to see this. the bands I am shooting are dobuled .050 latex cut on a slight taper. These velocities were achived at an ear anchor, my standard achor point, I did a longer anchor behind my head and got two velocities, one of 475 and 500 fps! I know a couple shooters that anchor back this far, but I do not shoot this way.

You probably have a more potent weapon there than I have with an old .32 Rimfire top break someone gave me years ago. I found ammo for that one, and tried it on an old rusty drum that was in the woodlot, and full of .22 holes. That slug bounced off, and I saw it coming back ! Hard to believe that was at one time a defence weapon, but it sure was a good way to annoy someone.

CONGRATULATIONS MM! I had absolutely no idea that a slingshot could match or beat the speed of a compound bow (350 fps is considered blazing fast IIRC). At 475 to 500 fps, you are smoking the speed of an arrow.

Dont know much about slingshots outside of the Wrist Rockets we had as kids, but that velocity is impressive!
