Greetings, Everyone...New Guy Here

Actually, I've been a registered member for a while now but mostly been perusing the site/threads on specific topics...namely Buck knives. I've been an avid collector of Buck knives for several years now and have had the fortune to collect some beauties and some that are rare and hard to find.
Anyway...I hail from Virginia, am retired (military (20 yrs) & 20 years of civil service) and. I'm a soon to be a 68-year-old, going on 28.

So far, I've enjoyed perusing this site and have learned a lot about certain knives from the veterans who have been doing this a lot longer than I have. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to being a part of the discussions and learning my way around the site a bit more. Maybe even brag about some of my treasures I've been able to obtain.
I'm an 'old school' type of person, so bear with me and set me straight if I tend to get out of line. Each forum has its own protocols, and I've read those on this site, so I'll do my best to behave and make my presence a pleasurable one.
That's pretty much me. If anyone wants to know more, within reason, I'll be happy to respond. Until then...Greetings again to all.

Doc B...Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it.
Hey Steve...Thank you. I was Navy and retired in 98 (Chief Petty Officer E-7) Was on several different ships (FFG-34, G.W. Carrier, CG, tour at GTMO (Guantanamo Bay), Small Arms Instr. at Lil Creek, Amphib Base) Saw a lot of the world, courtesy of the government.
After I retired, I picked up a Physical Security Specialist position in the Tidewater area (Norfolk, Va.). I was a Master-At-Arms for 14 years, so my qualifications got me in the door as a PSS. Just retired from that position after another 20 years last April 2018.

Thanks to everyone for your most gracious welcome to this oldtimer. I appreciate it. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better, and you me. A great way to pass the time...when my 'honey do' list is complete.
Anyway...right quick,I just picked up an interesting BUCK knife, but not sure if it's a counterfeit yet. I'm still doing some research and going to take some photos. This knife is in near mint condition and has either rosewood or cherry wood handle. The stamp on the blade is a single "BUCK"...and that's all. There is a medallion on one side of the handle that says; "BUCK KNIVES". It's a fixed blade and is 8" overall length, with the cutting part of the blade at 4 inches. It came w/a black nylon sheath, which appears to be the original sheath. It almost looks like a boning knife with a 102 style blade. It has never been sharpened or used and well kept. It came from an estate sale.
Now, for the drawback on this knife; It has "TAIWAN" stamped on the opposite side of the blade. I know Buck had some knives made in Taiwan years ago, I'm just not sure if this is one of them. I paid $24.00 for this knife, so I'm not out much $$$ if it's not legit. However, this knife is in immaculate condition and only has two flaws that I see. Blemishes on the brass guard and the medallions words are not level and slightly tilted. One would have to be paying attention and look at it closely to even notice it.
I'll get some photos worked up and post them for perusal by those interested. I'll start a new thread regarding this when I do. I plan to also send some photos to the counterfeit guru at Buck and to the historians to see if they can provide any authenticity or not.
Later...
LJ

Last I heard Joe Houser was heading up the Buck Knives anti-counterfeit effort. He would at least know who to direct you to at Buck Knives. OH

Thanks, OH, for the insight. Yeah, if anyone would know, it would be Joe. I believe Mr. Ledgerton is also the curator for the Buck museum.

The baton for the anti-counterfit effort has been passed from Joe Houser to Tony Wagner twagner@buck knives.com
Joe Houser is still the historian but I think he is concentrating his efforts on customs now.

I forgot to mention that the BCCI electronic membership is only $10.00 a year and is absolutely the best deal in the world of knives period! The BCCI Website contains a vast amount of information but my favorite part is the Special project lists and 20 plus years of the newsletter..
