All About Pocket Knives

Picked this up from my knife buddy whos had it for many years. Proud to be its caretaker now.

That's a beautiful knife. But I've enlarged every picture several times and can't figure it out. At first it looks like a rope knife but the blade has notches cut accross the end and it looks heavy enough to be a tire lever. I'm obviously missing something but it's got me stumped. Thanks

A super knife from Miller Bros - Congrats and enjoy .. I have handled one that a friend of mine owns and it is one "hefty" knife - very impressive ... Miller Bros made another gravity knife with a spear point blade that is very cool ...

Cool knife. That can't be very easy to find in such condition.

The lever on the top side(visible in a couple of the pictures)is depressed while holding the knife vertically(blade opening down)and the blade slides open and is locked in position.Depressing the lever again with the blade vertical causes the blade to slide back into the handle.

The blade fits up inside the handle. There is a catch that fits in the slot in the end of the blade.
Press the lever to release the catch and the blade falls out of the handle like a rocket. Kind of.
Some one who has handled one more that I have should be able to give a better explanation.

I only handled one that was not in good repair, but it was a neat knife. A hand full.

It was a U. S. Navy issue knife, I believe.

It is basically a rope knife that can be opened and closed with one hand.

They are quite rare.

They were first created for paratroopers. They needed a knife that opened easily by one hand to cut their para-shoot ropes if they got tangled up.
Very interested history if any of you ever looked.
Now all you need is the SUPER rare WWII German Para gravity to make a set.

I think that Miller Brothers knife predates paratroopers.

Why gravity knives are regulated is beyond me. I can see regulating ballistic knives and that's about it. Your run of the mill hoodlum is going to use a firearm (stolen) to commit a crime, or a brick.

If I recall correctly I believe the first paratroops were russians in the mid or late 1930's.

Thanks everyone! Yes this knife definitely predates paratroopers LoL! I think it was during the Spanish American War and WW1 these were used

I’ve always wanted one of these but never had the chance to buy one, that is till Sat. Just got mine in the mail today. The condition is not as nice as the one posted here but I’m very happy to have it
