Just came across this Schrade Penknife. The tang says SCHRADE, N.Y. U.S.A. Number on the pile side is 708 which I assume is a model number. It is in excellent condition. I know little of Schrade. Can anyone suggest its age? I think it must be fairly recent.

By catalog entries, 1973 through 1979, perhaps more likely the last half of that range. Good little knife.

Those little knives certainly have a draw to them and that one is a keeper. ::td::

Does the main blade have a long pull or nail nick? A long pull may put it on the older end of its date range.

Thank you Paul. The pull is looooooooooong. About half the blades length. Very much appreciate the information.

Not sure, but my guess is sometime in the 80's.

That guess is based on the 1985 old timer red bone set using a NY stamp, also the heritage series from 83-86 had a NY stamp. The brown "wood" old timer boxes were used until approximately the mid 1980's, you will find knives in those boxes with the NY stamp and some without. I suspect it was a running change, and was also done alongside the regular usa stamp without the NY. For example I have not yet seen a 61ot with a NY stamp but the pattern was introduced in 1976, when they were certainly still using the NY stamp.
