Can you Schrade guys help me figure out this hunter?

I just fished this knife out of the bay. The sellers pics suck pretty bad.
I got this knife so I could have a hunter with good bones to customize the scales. I saw this one had shrunken cell scales so I figured it would be a good candidate.
Anyway.... y'all have any idea when this guy was made?
I didn't see it in the 1926 catalog.
I can't seem to find ANY pics of a Folding Hunter with yellow mother of toilet seat scales.....(???)
Is it still a model 225H?
The tang stamp is hard to make out but it does look like the 1917 - 1946 stamp.
SO.... here she is.....
The best I could do for a pic of the tang stamp....
What you recon we have here?
Mike

Sho 'nuff!
Thanks for doing that research for me. Nice! So, this handle material is called "Marine Pearl Pyralin"..
Well, it shrunk down and is cracked in SEVERAL places.... Now I just need to find me a suitable replacement material.
I would like to find something that looks similar to what is there now.

This is the predecessor to the 225, the old frame with more pins. Pyralin is another name for celluloid. It's not in too bad of shape, should make a good user.

I have one like that with the tang stamp worn off or perhaps it was never stamped, I'm not certain one way or the other.
I think I will put a handle on it one of these days. It has some shrinkage in one pin crack, but it will not get better with age!

Yep...
These scales are coming off. If I don't take 'em off, they will soon fall off....
I have been looking around for ideas of a replacement scale material. I found this stuff..... It's called Kyranite. Looks pretty cool.
Still looking....

SO.... is that what the scales are SUPPOSED to look like?
I can still see some blade etch on yours Dale.
Nice knife!

After it was pointed out I easily saw the "FORGED STEEL" etch. Your knife may have been a Craftsman version with a Sears-style stamp or maybe, as you mentioned, no tang-stamp. Perhaps there is more to that etch? Something like "Craftsman 9470/Forged Steel" ? I read in another thread how Sears was using this etch in it's 1948 catalog. Maybe your particular knife is early Schrade Walden for Sears. Another possibility...

I believe that I have also seen these with Ulster U.S.A. stamps, and they may have been marketed to Sears. Baer owned both Schrade and Ulster U.S.A. and had big pull at Camillus and Sears, so Sears was getting knives from all three places. As near as I can tell the Schrade and the Ulster U.S.A. hunters from this period were the same animal. Here is a yellow one.

That etch is very plain in the picture. I bet I've had this knife for seven or eight years and I have not seen that etch before!

The Schrade "Marine Pearl" that is on their lobster knives looks like real pearl. Could handles on O.P. knife be the "Onyx" ? Or 'yellow cracked ice' because it was an SFO for Sears or other business ? I do not think it is "Marine Pearl".

Good point Roland.
Yep, I was figuring
maybe the yellow cracked ice when I first saw the handles on mine.
Hmmmmmmmm.........

I don't think Schrade's celluloid "Marine Pearl" always looks closer to real MOP. Please post an example if you have one. You may be looking at real MOP.
Schrade Cut Co had many different celluloid patterns. I think the colour of old celluloid handles can fade and change over time. When I found the OP knife in the catalogs I wasn't too concerned about exactly what original colour the soon to be discarded handles were so I just went with a yellowed "Marine Pearl" option as expressly stated in the catalog. I was thinking it started out a bit "whiter" like real MOP and over 70+ years it yellowed as it cracked and shrunk.
Compared to a bunch of later Schrade Walden 876 examples I still think Mike's knife is most likely "Marine Pearl". During Schrade Walden era the celluloid 876 only came in "Marine Pearl". Most of the examples I have seen are quite yellow. The last two pics are of an 876S that was sold by ea42. The celluloid is the yellowish colour "Marine Pearl" I expect to see. Do these not look like Mike's knife?
This newer Schrade Walden 876 example is indeed "whiter" but you can still see areas that are yellow. What will it's colour be in another 30 years?
Schrade Cut Co had a bunch of different celluloid "pearl" options: Abalone Pearl, Blue Pearl, Black Pearl, Golden Pearl, Green Pearl, Marine Pearl, Smoked Pearl, Persian Pearl. I do not believe Schrade itself ever used the term "cracked ice" to describe a celluloid pattern although many collectors do. orvet's knife might well be "Green Pearl" celluloid.
If anyone has confirmed examples of the 8 different Cut Co celluloid pearl variations I'd love to see them lined up to eliminate our guesswork as to which is which. If anyone can 100% guarantee their 70+ year-old shrunken-handle celluloid knives are exactly the same colour as when they started out, well, I will eat my hat.
Sooooo, while the knife is indeed a 2104 3/8 feel free to add suffixes AC, AP, BLUE, BP, GP, G, M, P, or PP as you see fit.
Maybe ea42 will weigh in on this one. I'd love to hear his opinion.

My examples of "Marine Pearl" were Schrade-Walden lobster knives that came in a dark wood box. I collect pearl knives and these S-W looked like real pearl. Another collector linked me to the old flyer from when these were being sold and the handles are described as "Marine Pearl".
Schrade Cut Co was a different company, owned by different people. They might have used the term "Marine Pearl" for a different material than what is on the S-W "Marine Pearl" knives i had. "Had" because i sold them a few years ago.

Close enough for government work.
It seems repetitive to say "nice work" but it really is some "nice work".
