I was just looking at these on Ebay and noticed the incredible number of these that had been sold recently and thought many of these must be China made reproduction's, but it looks like a hoard of these has been found. Hang onto your wallet if you have several in your collection. Looks like a deep price drop and all are in NM condition with pouch and original box.

Interesting link but it is advertising to encourage you to buy one of the "Stainless Made in Germany" AB knives. He mentions Schrade-Walden as the name on the invoice which does not exactly fit with "Made in Germany". His info might not be accurate.

Pretty sure this is the type of knife discussed. Several are listed and several have been sold for a lot less than mentioned in the article.

The article tries to convey the situation of the A-B historian making a discovery of the Stanhope lens knives locked away for over 50 years plus some paper work regarding Imperial & Schrade Walden.
I think it is all just fancy yarn spinning advertising. As you say his assessment of $400 value is way too high. I bet $50 will be the range at auctions.

Below is a note I got back from John Stanley regarding the A-B opener. John is an opener collector and runs the Just for openers website, among other things. He seems to think it's more legit than I did.
Not a counterfeit but a cheaper made 1952 version on the Anheuser-Busch knife. About 30 turned up a Midwest auction 10-12 years ago. A-B put out many variations of the knife. Knife appears to have plastic handles. Just a newer version of an old piece.
