All About Pocket Knives

Hi to all. The Bulldog Cowboy's Pet knife is the only 1st gen frame with stainless steel blades that was regular issue. I have come across a two blade trapper, undocumented, that has stainless blades and the early Bulldog Brand etch. After consulting with some Bulldog gurus, it was determined the knife was made under Charlie Dorton (see pics). Also in the pictures I included comparison photos of BKC 299 (stag 1st gen) and an unlisted stag (2nd gen 1 of 3) and comparison photos of BKC 300 (1st gen green bone) and BKC 300-A (2nd gen green bone). There are several noticable differences between the two:
1. The the grind on top of the master blade on 1st gen knives goes almost to the tang. 2nd gen grind stops at the transition from the tip to the top of the spine.
2. The etch: 2nd gen knives have "Stainless Steel" in the etch near the tang.
3. Placement of the pull on the master blade is different. 1st gen is closer to the transition point of the tip and spine and stop short of the end of the etch. There are 21 notches in the master blade pull.
2nd gen pull on the master blade extends past the etch and has 22 notches in the pull.
4. There is a difference in the stag of 1st and 2nd gen. 1st gen is "Sambar" and 2nd gen is "European". This is not 100%, as I have seen some 2nd gen with "Sambar". There is a difference in the jigging of the bone. 1st gen jigging resembles a peach seed where 2nd gen jigging has longer and thiner grooves.
The BKC #'s of the knives are:
1. 299 stag 3 of 400 regular issue
2. 300 green bone 3 of 350 regular issue
3. 300-A green bone 4 of 36 2nd gen
4. 301 dark butter & molasses 1 of 300 regular issue
5. 302 gray slate 1 of 300 regular issue
6. 303 gold dust 1 of 300 regular issue
7. 304 dark brown bone 3 of 48
8. 305 light brown bone 1 of 2
9. 306 torched stag 8 of 24
10. 307 torched bone 5 of 11
11. 308 marble 1 of 9
12. 311 red sparkle 1 blade 1 of 19
13. 312 coon stripe 1 of 8
14. Unlisted stag slim frame 2 of ? Has small master blade pull
15. Unlisted stag prototype 1 of 3 2nd gen

What an awesome collection. And I greatly appreciate the information provided about the differences between 1st and 2nd generation.

Thank you for your interest and kind words. I just realized that I forgot to mention that 2nd gen knives, like 1st gen, have 1984 stamped on the sheepsfoot blade. That fact is what puzzled me and gave me the most trouble in my infant years of collecting.
In all of my other postings of my collection I included pictures of 2nd gen knives, when I have them, for comparison to 1st. I was short on time and didn't describe the differences as I did with this set. I will go back and update all of them. In general, the differences I mentioned in the Cowboy's Pet Set, holds true to the other frames and sets. I hope the information is helpful.
