All About Pocket Knives

I am JUST ABOUT done with my wife's "honey do", so I should be able to get back in my shop soon.
Over the weekend, I fished this guy out of the bay. I don't know much about it yet. If anyone has one, maybe y'all can tell be about it.

The tang stamp says, "Garden City Mfg Cutlery Co".
It looks like it has some KILLER stag for handles. Sure looks like fun OLD knife..... turn-of the-century maybe?

Anyway.... here it is....
(It even has a fleem blade...COOL)

Not the knowing one but it looks like a horseman's knife. It is a looker for sure with those handles. Be knice to see it when your finished.

AND.... it has a cork screw!
So... if you are out riding your horse, you can open a bottle of wine for the girl riding with you!

LOL... yep, that is a sure thing!
As I understand, they don't exactly give away horses, saddles, bridles transport trailers, etc ... PLUS, you gotta feed 'em.

Just be happy they eat hay & don't drink wine. Good grief, you'd need barrels of the stuff!!!

Only my opinion here and to each their own. That is a farrier's knife and not only that it is an old, beautiful farrier's knife. Under no condition would I touch that knife. It has a ton of desirability just as is. The only exception would be if you could find another knife just like it with bad handles taking two knives and making one better one, but I would not alter it in any way other than that. Those stag handles are killers. That has a bleeder on it as well. Wow!

You may be correct here Bob.... I can't seem to find anything on this knife. So far, I am seeing a few knives that look like this one but are English or German made..... (???)

Garden City Manufacturing...... Cutlery Company, is just not out there that I can find.
I might have to post this one up in another forum and see what some other folks know.



Only thing broken is the blade and it is a small blade at that..... Good tang mark on it.
All the other implements are fine.

We shall see.

I'm with Bob. Maybe a light cleaning, but leave as is, unless you can find a direct replacement blade.

I'm assuming that is from England. Most of the better, early farrier knives are. Post it under Q and A and you'll have people knocking down your door wanting to buy it as is. Also ask what the corkscrew is for. I think I have seen before that prior to 1900 a lot of drinks, tonics, medicines, etc. were sealed with corks and these sporting type knives were equipped to open them?

You should get a blade welded to what's left so you don't lose the tang stamp. Gorgeous scales too.

I will bet 25¢ this is from England based upon the style of the knife. Anxious to see what the experts and non experts say on it.

Yep, I am interested to hear what others say.
No comments so far over in the "Q&A" forum..... LOL... have I stumped the experts?
