All About Pocket Knives

Re-handled this one with some bone that I had. Added a little embellishment to the bolsters. Everything was nice and tight so I left the Swinden keys intact (I usually drill them out and go with the pin through the bolster). I left the blades "as found" as they seemed to be in pretty good shape.
This is a nice sized knife in great condition and will make an excellent EDC for someone.

How did you get the knife back together and have everything turn out all nice and tight?

Did you have to put the rocker pin in last?

Hi Mike,
Most of the Swinden key knives I’ve worked on have had a bit of play in them so I usually just eliminate the Swinden keys and drill out the bolsters for new pins. On this knife the blades were nice and tight with no play so I decided to reuse the Swinden keys and save myself the extra step of drilling out the bolsters.
And yes, on Swinden key knives you take out the spring rocker pin, swivel the bolsters and liners to disengage from the Swinden keys, replace the handles, do whatever cleanup you want done and reassemble the knife in the reverse order. Then put the knife in whatever knife vise you’re using and reinstall the rocker pin.
I’m not a huge fan of the Swinden key setup but for this particular knife it worked out well.

That is some pretty bone, and some great work on it, Jeff! I think it was a good choice to leave the blades as-is. That, coupled with the classic look of those scales, makes it a really great looking knife!
