All About Pocket Knives

I had this older Camco Barlow in my AAPK store for awhile with ruby red jigged bone handles. The color wasn't terrific. It was a steel liner, steel bolster standard Barlow pocket knife.
I decided to convert it to a single blade knife and re-handle it in some natural stag that I had from a previous Culpepper purchase. I cut new brass liners, created some custom nickel silver bolsters and put it all back together.
It was my first time working with stag and I liked the material and will work with it again.

That is quite a transformation! So all that is original is the blade and spring. Mighty purty.

I’ve purchased brass sheet stock locally from one of the hardware stores in the area previously. The brass sheet stock for this knife came from Jantz. It was reasonably priced and since I was ordering some nickel silver bar stock anyway I just added a small sheet to the order.

Doglegg is right, if you had not told us this was your first time working with stag, we would not have known it by the quality of the work, very good!
I think stag is less brittle than bone if its not all dried out, but it is generally harder to work with the rough surface of the stag to get it to fit properly.

Nice job with the stag, and nice job rebuilding the knife. Those bolsters are eye-catching!

That blade was shaped that way when I originally bought the knife so I just used it the way it was.
Re-profiling blades isn’t something I’m real good at (not enough practice I guess) so I generally avoid doing it unless absolutely necessary.
